Speaking of games that lost their pizzazz, I just got an e-mail from NIC saying that they were re-activating all City of Heroes accounts for free play through the weekend.

And here I just finally got around to uninstalling CoH a week or so ago. No way I'm going through that download again just to run around for a couple days.

When they did that last year, my husband reinstalled the game, logged on for about 15 minutes, then uninstalled it, ha.

I've thought about installing it again, but I know I'd just make a bunch of characters and never actually play them.

Isn't that 95% of the game?

At least.

Don't think I ever got a character past 30 in that game.

God damn, that hat kicked *** Anyway, I've already seen the character screenshots of Vanguard. It's the same basic stuff aside from my screenshots being of more mundane locations since I was too lazy to walk far with my camera.
--------------------------------------------------------------------

nope. you copied some screenies from a web site. those are the same shots flaoting around since beta. never set foot in the game have you?

there is no comparison. none. Vanguard graphics are on par with any FPS game out there. as good as oblivion, and i am not exagerating. they really are that high quality.

ill give the guys at sigil one thing, they KNOW how to make a world. their dungons are on par with anything i have seen in EQ ir EQ2. and no one has done a dungon better. their cities, while somewhat deserted for the most part, aer FRIGGIN HUGE. every door opens. you can lev off mountain tops into forts(better not though, instant death, i know). if you can see it, you can interact with it from the highest mountain, to the deepest part of the ocean of you have a underwater breating spell of some type.

the vanguard world is awsome. the only thing that comes close is EQ2. it is th e best world online ATM imo.

LOTR? a baby WoW. half size cities, half size fighting areas, half as many races. the only thing it has going for it is it is casual freindly, just like WoW...for the first few levels anyway. i didnt venture too far in to it. after my first pointy hat character with a flaming yelow shirt and green pants......well, i could barley stand the graphics in WoW. if it wasnt for the time freindly game play in WoW, i never would have gotten past the 20s, much les the 50s which is about where i couldnt bother myself to log on anymore.

my kids still love WoW though.

i hope LOTR does well. i can already see Vanguard is not doing well. there doesnt seem to be any grouping going on past 30, and its a "must group" type of game. awsome world, just like EQ and EQ2, bad call on mechanics....jst like EQ and EQ2. people are not going to put up with the marithon gaming sessions anymore. they dont have to.

but LOTRs world has nothing on Vanguard. been over 2 weeks since i have found a group, but i can still loose an hour or two just exploring new areas. they graphics are that good.

warhammer? name one pvp focused game anywhere near to top of the pecking order. there are none. hope it does well, just dont see it happening.

at the top, WoW. casual friendly pve focused.
second place, all the rest of the pve games that are group focused. linnage, ffxi,EQ1, EQ2, now vanguard.
at the bottom, ALL of the pvp focused games. shadowbane, AC2(dead now), E&B(dead now), planetside(best pvp game ever made imo), DAOC(still kicking), guildwars, SWG, and AO.

thats just the way it shakes out. casual friendly pve is king.

that doesnt mean there is not a market for others, just means they will probably not be on top. hell, UO is still kicking.

that said, i loved all the games i have played. i feel greatfull al of them were made. i left some faster than others, and revisited some after leaving them for a while, but i do not regret buying any of them. the first 20 levels in any new game are awsome. how long they hold my attention after that is just iceing on the cake as far as im concerned. by 20 i have already played them longer than any offline game, like doom3, quake4, oblivion and the rest. so it was well worth the purchase price.

everyone is going to have their favorite for their own reasons. weather one is better than the other will always be a matter of openion.

but the masses want casual friendly pve and an enguageing world.

Someone used beta screenshots of her character for her up-to-date blog? Huh. Well, feel free to link something, then.
