Asymlumites--

I will be hitting the karaoke bar this friday with some friends and after sufficient lubrication with Irish car bombs I plan to belt out some "friends in low places".

Just curious- what are all your favorite karaoke show stoppers?

There is no better(and by no better I mean potentially disastrous)drunken karaoke song than Open Arms, by Journey.

I hate karaoke.

I love karaoke.

When I was in Shangai, I sang "My Way", in French, with Chinese subtitled lyrics. It didn't go great, but the crowd was so easy to please i felt like a rock star. For at least 2 minutes.

Sinatra songs are always good.

And obviously, the drunker the better.

Although I personally hate it, Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive" always seems to strike a chord within the prepubescent crowd.

I haven't sung karaoke in a good long while. I think back in the day Bonnie Raitt and Stevie Nicks were my go-to's, unless they had Mary J. Blige's "Sweet Thing". Then it was on.

Prepubescent, really? I always thought of it as a bitter-divorcee-trying-to-recapture-my-youth-in-drunken-outing sort of song...but what would I know?

I only attempted karaoke once. It was in college, and 3 of my drunken friends and I got up and butchered Love Shack by the B52's.

Lesson learned.

You're thinking of the Cake version.

It was the official song of the French soccer team that won the '98 World Cup.

No, I don't know why either...

And "La Danse des Canards" was already taken by the French rugby team.

You never close your eyes any more
When I kiss your lips
And there's no tenderness like before
In your fingertips
You're trying hard not to show it baby
But baby, baby I know it

You've lost that loving feeling
Oh, that loving feeling
You've lost that loving feeling
Now it's gone, gone, gone
Whoa-oh

Now there's no tenderness
In your eyes when I reach for you
And girl you're starting to criticize
little things I do
It makes me just feel like crying baby
'Cause baby, something beautiful's dying

You've lost that loving feeling
Oh that loving feeling
Bring back that loving feeling
Now it's gone gone gone
And I can't go on
No-oh-oh

Baby baby I get down on my knees for you
If you would only love me like you used to do
We had a love
A love a love you don't find every day
So don't...don't...don't let it slip away

Bring back that loving feeling
Oh, that loving feeling
Bring back that loving feeling
Now it's gone...gone...gone...
And I can't go on...
No-oh-oh...

I'm going to be singing this all day long now....

Sing American Pie. The only thing better than listening to a drunken 'tard try to sing is listening to a drunken 'tard try to sing for eight and a half minutes.

If you have a date, Paradise by the Dashboard Lights is also a winner.

Blister in the Sun or Shout (depending on if you can get some fun audience participation).

I've done this numerous times, always with a glass of bourbon and a cigarette. It helps if you have sun-glasses, too.

The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they called "Gitche Gumee."
The lake, it is said, never gives up her dead
When the skies of November turn gloomy...

Sweet Caroline always seems popular.

Edit: If anyone ever gets to hear Smash sing, say in Chicago, make him sing "Hungry like the Wolf" - Reel Big Fish style, hahahahaha.

My friends and I did Bohemian Rhapsody once in college, on the quest for the most difficult song. We did about as bad as you could possibly imagine on it, so it was a total success.
