55mph :0 (0.0%)
70mph :20 (36.4%)
90mph :6 (10.9%)
100mph :2 (3.6%)
No Limit :11 (20.0%)
No limit for men. 50 for wimminz:16 (29.1%)
Total:55

Just curious

I said no limit, because we all know women aren't allowed to drive.

No limit.

Because speed doesn't kill.

The thing that kills is being stopped suddenly, whilst moving at speed.

Stopping too quickly should be outlawed!

70mph, because that's the average speed at which most highway traffic travels, regardless of posted limits.

There should be a study done on horsepower and torque rates/ratios of current cars compared to that of cars when the double-nickel was implemented. I would imagine that the bigger the car and more powerful the engine, the less gas it consumes while cruising at higher speeds in a low-torque gear.

At rush hour, maybe.

On runs from Cologne to Freiburg in late morning, early afternoon or evening I have often held a steady 120mph in the outside lane and occasionally had to pull in to let someone overtake. No snarl-ups, no worries.

I quite like the laws in Northern Europe (France, Belgium, Holland etc.) - 110kph in wet weather, 130kph in the dry (but cops don't hassle you up to 150 or 160)

But on 3 or 4 lane highways, why have a speed limit? Seriously?

Oh, and just to state that whether I agree with the local speed limit or not, I always stay within the legal limit.

no limit.

its soo crowded here in miami, that no limit would probably kill off alot of the idiots on the road, and damage and injure enough of the rest that driving would be tolerable again.

coarse, ill need to go to an auction and buy an old u-hual step van to drive for a while till they eliminate themselves.........

Wet Weather 70mph

Dry weather 80mph

But if the road's pretty clear, you're cool up to about 100mph.

Incidentally, the big difference I've noticed between EU and US driving on multi-lane roads is lane discipline.

In US I always see pillocks sitting in the fast lane at 50 or 60, or trying to overtake on the inside. Here be dragons!

In EU most people hug the inside lanes and leave the outside lane free. Big difference. Driving from the centre of England to Scotland last week, I was averaging 95 most of the way with very few occasions where I needed to slow for traffic. Slower cars pulled in, and I gave way for faster traffic. Not something I've seen routinely in the parts of USA I've visited.

Yeah, that's a major point of contention - personal responsibility and consideration. We here colonists don't believe in such. That's why some sort of speed limit needs to be in place, or all the idiot gearheads will be convinced they can slalom through traffic at a buck-eighty without any consequences.

What are the consequences of 180 on a clear lane?

Sounds like a rush to me

I'd say about 80(which isn't an option). Its slow moving vechicles that ***** everything up. Last winter I almost crashed up because the car infront of me slowed down to 40 real quick, cause the truck infront of him(in the middle of 3 lanes) was going 40.

Not to mention what happens when some people see a cop while going about 5 miles over the speed limit (Maybe if I slow down real quick to 55 he'll average the two numbers and wont pull me over).

On the bike I usually cruise at 160km/h, In the car on an open road I've been known to average 180-190km/h, but on the monitored roads I usually keep it under 160km/h.

Regular traffic around here rolls at 140-160km/h unless there is a speed trap, then everyone slows to 100-120km/h.

Honestly, it kind of depends on the road. Heavier traffic? More twists and bends? Open road with nothing but you and the very rare oncoming traffic?

However, there are too many idiots in the world. Rather than depending on people to use their judgement, you have to make rules.

In most of southern California, people travel 10 miles per hour over the speed limit if traffic is moving freely. The are trying to achieve an average speed of 70 to make up for the hour and a half they just spent going 10.
