Some survey was released stating that, despite omnipresent news coverage via multiple outlets, the average guy knows as much (or less) about basic civics than we did twenty years ago. Based on questions such as the name of the vice-president, Speaker of the House, which parties control Congress, etc. the amusing part to me:
Quote:
And, perhaps as another sign of the times, the percentage of people holding a high level of knowledge about current news – those able to answer at least 15 of 23 questions – is higher among the regular audience of Jon Stewart's The Daily Show and The Colbert Report on Comedy Central – as well as those who frequent the Web-sites of major newspapers – 54 percent -- than it is among the regular audience of CNN – 41 percent – or the regular audience of the network evening news shows – 38 percent.

Rush Limbaugh's audience, it turns out, does better on this test – 51 percent – than the audience regular audience of Fox News Channel – 35 percent.
It was previously shown that TDS viewers were better informed than O'Reilly audiences after O'Reilly referred to TDS viewers as pot-smoking college drop-outs (or whatever similar words he used). Now TDS/CR audiences beat out Limbaugh's. Smiley: laugh

I would, however, be interested to see a comparison between Limbaugh and some Air America program. Erm, if there even still is an Air America.

I posted it as an amusing fluff piece. If it got your dander up and now you demand cites so you can try to prove it wrong with long, tortured posts, just let me know.

46.78% of Assylumites believe surveys, but 87.644% of surveys are the result of spider rape.

Fact

Deal with it.

I'm confused.

Are you entering that post for the "Rubber/Glue" award, or is it in the "You missed my irony" category?

No, this means that he gets to break out the special balloons and banners that were given to all Pubbie voters to announce "Mission Accomplished."

The Great American Civics Quiz.
I suck. Smiley: frown
Quote:
According to our gradebook, you got 32.5 right; and you left 5 blank.
You took a stab at the one about the last name on the Declaration of Independence... You got it wrong, but you took a stab.

We're not history or civics majors here at BBHQ; but we think that every American should be able to answer at least 75% of these. Accordingly, your score should be 40 or better.

Using that as a standard, we created this "yardstick" to evaluate your performance:

50-54: excellent - where you should be
45-49: very good - with some room for improvement
41-44: good - but no gold stars
31-40: fair - OK, but not noteworthy
20-30: poor - a remedial course is in order
below 20: miserable - inexcusable

Using that scale, we would describe your score as fair.

That was a pretty hard quiz. I missed some stupid ones, too.

I took the quiz and got 36 right, but 6 of my wrong answers were mispelled and if asked in an oral quiz I would have done better then fair. Still no glod star, since I made some stupid mistakes that my mom would beat me for.

I blame her for dying and not being around to keep me on my toes, with her daily civics lessons.

It's much harder if you weren't alive when those speeches were made. Also, the question regarding the duty of the Supreme Court was too ambiguous. I demand a recount!

The Supreme Court ones were pretty easy, I thought. I put "Alberto" instead of "Alfredo" as Gonzales' first name. Should have left it as Al.

Oh, and I thought Lincoln wrote a speech that Gerald Ford gave, haha.

I blanked on Bernake after a seeming lifetime of Greenspan, blind-guessed Hamilton for the DoI sig and, for no explainable reason, said the Senate had 50 voting members, not 100 Smiley: rolleyes

That last flub alone makes knowing the Presidental quotes a lot less fulfilling.
