So I was checking out a map to estimate the relative distance that I will be travelling on Friday morning for the Friday the 13th biker rally and noticed that my corner of the world (you call them countys, we call them regions) is actually larger than the entire state of Rhode Island. Additionally, the travel distance for this ride is about the length of Massachusetts. The question I have for you Americans is "Why is Rhode Island considered a state?" Seriously, you could lump the entire North East into one tiny state slightly bigger than Nova Scotia (one of our smallest provinces) and not look so silly. So what's the deal with that? Smiley: dubious

Meh, they wanted two Senators. There were only 13 states at the time, and only a couple hundred people in any of them; so why not?

I think we let Rhode Island just remain a state as a Thank you for turning traitor and being the first to tell the British to eat it.

It's Revolution baby!

Because no one else wanted it.

To make matters worse..the state of Rhode Island has many areas where the speed limit is about 5-10 miles under most states norms. I think they do that to make the state seem bigger. Smiley: disappointed

Well, it was a colony pre-revolution so why not make it a state post-revolution? I bet it seemed a lot larger when you had to walk or ride a horse across it.

Apparently, Rhode Island (or the parts thereof which combined* to form Rhode Island) was founded by several people who independently managed to get booted from Massachusetts.

I'm more impressed by the 30,000 people who live in under a square mile of Monaco. Do they live under the ground like Morlocks?

A whole lotta apartment buildings, I guess.

They should really apply to participate in the next World Cup. Benedict would make a great manager, and I'm sure some of the Cardinals could run for at least a couple of minutes.

And I've heard God has a mean left foot.
