What is the definition, exactly?

Edited to add:

Quote:
Imus spent part of Monday engaged in damage control. On the Rev. Al Sharpton's radio show just hours before his suspension, Imus sounded deferential, repeatedly calling the host "Sir," and conceded that his comments about the Rutgers team were not funny.

Oh, yeah. He bad.

How about Imus coming on Sharptons show to apologize, south park style, and ends up referring to them as 'you people' LOL

I feel like i'm watching a live south park episode.

I hadn't ever heard of the guy until a day or two ago. When I first saw the headlines, I assumed he was some sports coach or other figure.

Na, he's been around for something like 30 years. I watched his show for about a week, then realized that the remote was under the cushion, so I found something interesting.

Oh and this guy Imus is a rabid liberal. He's good friends with Biden amongst other left wing nuts.

I wouldn't call him rabid. He's slightly left of center on some issues, far right on some others, and so far off the chart on even more, that I'm not sure he fits in any political group known to man.

He likes most Democrats, but doesn't vote for them. I think he's just an oddity from the 70s media era.

It was kinda funny in the shock jock way of things. Imus is old and tired, and so is his shock.

Richards must have the biggest smile now though. Finally got the target circles off of him.

Exactly.

What is the big deal? He made a Spike Lee reference and a joke. I fail to see how calling some women ugly hos warrents a "zomg! die you klansman" response.

Maybe I am not in touch with reality, but it seems to me that there are more important issues that the "black leaders" should be getting upset over. Somehow a old coot with a large neck waddle and a cowboy hat doesn't seem as important as ramptant black on black violence and poor inner city education scores.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

I really don't see where the problem is in what he said. (see quote) I dont read this to be "as long as you don't hurt someones feeling or make them cry" where as I dont fully agree with what he said I dont see where what he said warrants any diciplinary action.

I haven't seen one person say that he had no Constitutional right to say what he said, so drop that straw man right there.

I can't speak for them, and it does seem like a lot of the people making noise about racism go around looking for reasons to complain more for self-aggrandizement than real condern for the cause. Whatever. This isn't about Sharpton.

The problem I have with it is not so much the blatant racism as the misogyny. Here you have these college girls playing their hearts out and doing so much better than they'd ever expected, playing a perenniel contender for the national title. It's the stuff movies (not great movies, but again: off topic) are made about. I mean, show of hands: who ever heard of the Rutgers basketball team, either gender, before this happened?

They're not in a beauty contest, and they're not in a "girls gone wild" video, putting themselves out there to be judged on the basis of looks and/or acting slutty for the camera.

They're there to win a game, not to look demure and appealing to some washed-up old fart.

So what he said was well, for one thing, not funny. For another, it was completely outside the context of a basketball game. Like Sharpton seeking reason to take offense, Imus was seeking reason to give offense. Demeaning the looks of a group of college athletes was just his subject of choice at the time.

It wasn't earth shaking. It was just uncalled-for and rude. /shrug

I heard about them in the Absent Minded Professor. Or I could be horribly wrong. But I have heard of them before this.

Has nothing to do with the First Amendment. The First Amendment doesn't guarantee you the right to a radio and tv show. If corporations don't want to be associated with racist remarks then they can pull their sponsorship and fire someone. If they want to make him sit in the corner for an hour to keep his job or suspend him for two weeks, they can do that to.

He's lucky those nappy headed hos weren't articulate too. 'Cause then they might have busted a hosale metaphorical cap in Imus' cracker cowboy hat. Makes you wonder who Imus' demographic is though. Nobody seems to like him. There's soccer moms and nascar dads. Is there a shock jockey clubhouse I don't know about?

Ummmm can we say censorship I think that has somthing to do with Congress making laws and the denying of freedom of speech.
