Over here in Vancouver, we don't get cicadas at all for some reason. Too wet is my guess. My introduction to the cicada was in Prescott Arizona during my first year of college there. That was "The Year of The Bugsâ„¢" You have to understand, that the very first month of that year was apperently the 10 year cycle for a type of giant brown beatle. The entire campus was literally (and i say this with absolutly no exageration) carpeted with these beatles. They were kind of cute in an insectlike way, so we were all kind of bugged out by that point. Then the cicada's started up. Having not heared one before at that point, it took me quite a few nights to figure out how to sleep through their buzzing. Then i saw the first one. It flew in the open door, and attached itself to the TV. huuuuuge bug. scared a few of us for a second because we were not expecting it. but after that it was kind of interesting to watch. It was really shimmery green and looked like a big hunk of emerald bug.
