Take caution on advice on this issue from Katie. She'll open her doors to just about anyone, police, firemen, milkmen, Dallas Cowboys, etc.

Well not everyone can be a cool "Name" person like you on an internet message board.

Being a "no name" on the internet seems preferable to being a "name" on it.

Unless you have thousands of posts on it. Then you'd be better off buying a bottle of bourbon and a shotgun and letting nature take it's course.

Always cooperate with the Police!

Mike Patton always pops in my head when police are mentioned. Remember that song "stripsearch". We're poor old Mike gets pulled over by the fuzz, F for fake, give yourself away. Though Mike does no wrong (straight edge, only drug is caffiene and the ocassional **** shot out of a nike), the police still put him under the heat. While he speaks the truth it also coincides with how everyone who gets confronted by an officer believe they did no wrong, even if they did, and get on the defense whether true or false.

It's over today
The heat is gone, time is gone
F for fake
I feel no wrong, hide no wrong
I love this place, the lights
Under this face, so dry
Only way to change, give yourself away
Don't be ashamed, next in line
Close one eye, just walk by
In these days
I'm breathing stone, crying is done
I'll win this race
I'll leave alone, arrive alone
Love this place, the lights
Under this face, so dry
Stripped to the bone
I did no wrong
Truth is my name
Give yourself away
F for fake [4 times]
Give yourself away [3 times]

I don't know what's with young adults these days but they have an outlaw persona that they think can shrug the police off.

Just cooperate with them and they will let you off, give you a warning or minor citation. The last thing they want to deal with is a punk kid who thinks they are above the law, and if they do have to deal with that they will enforce the harshest conditions possible to teach you a lesson.

Suck it up and give yourself away.

What about it? Maybe you can explain to me the conversation we're having in your imagination, so I can appropriately respond to what it is you've invented that I'm arguing for.

A good night's sleep is mentioned where in the Constitution, exactly?

I think you can agree that the 4th Amendment trumps "a good night's sleep", yes?

If a crime has been committed, the police will intervene as necessary. Disturbing the peace, even yours, is generally a misdemeanor. So far, most police officers won't try to justify battering down a door for a misdemeanor noise complaint unless they have reason to believe lives are at stake once they get to the scene.

There was a thread a few months ago about a court case where cops arrived to check out a noise complaint and saw people fighting, blood, etc. They did break in, and it was contested on 4th Amendment grounds.

Bottom line: they use their discretion. You have recourse through the courts if you think they overstepped. Probably better not to give them a reason to shoot you.

Edit: 4th, 14th, it's all the same, right?
