Homes evacuated after bomb found

Up to 1,000 homes in Plymouth are being evacuated after the discovery of an unexploded bomb.

The device was found by workers on a building site in Brentor Road, in the Prince Rock area of the city.

It is sticking about six inches (15cm) out of the ground and is 10ins (25cm) in diameter.

Bomb disposal experts have confirmed it weighs about 250lb (113kg). It is thought the device will be removed from the site and detonated at sea.

Specialist equipment has been sent to Plymouth from Wales and when the bomb is moved, buildings on the route may also have to be evacuated.
I expected my Grandparents to put an end to this Shit! Smiley: motz

Now, back in '44 and '45, on a good day, Adolf was dropping a good 300 tons of ordnance on my countrymen's heads.

But this is happening every few weeks as we start building homes on fallow land.

Adolf!

It's Over!!

GFY!

thats ok when i was in high school in Germany (frankfurt to be specific) durring the summer they were doing some work on the school and found a 2000lb bomb about 10 feet under the ground.

the real scary part was the head of the bomb was directly UNDER my seat from the last year. yup so not only did Hitler drop bombs that did not go boom when they should of so did the allies.

Reminds me of the story in England where they had to shut down a food processing plant twice in a row for the same reason- bushels of potatoes, one set from France and the other from Belgium, somehow had WWI-WWII era munitions in the mix.

*note to self* No Belgium potatoes.

Belgium chocolate ought to be safe, after the refining process.

More reasons to eat chocolate! Life is good!

Hardly as dated but a Serbian co-worker of mine in the past once told me about visiting his old hometown a few years after the NATO actions. He said that they had a brand new post office/municipal building in the town square but, during the airstrikes, a cruise missile hit it and failed to detonate, winding up in the basement. Years later, they still had the entire town square shut off because no one knew if/when the missile would go off and no one would come remove it.

Reminds me of the neighborhood that I grew up in and have subsequently bought a home in. Tierrasanta was developed on land that was previously one of the old bombing ranges of the Army. And when the community was built, no one ever thought to actually sweep the area for bombs. About 25 years ago, a group of young boys found an undetonated bomb/grenade (I forget which, I was young at the time, but my brother was freinds with them), played with and promptly blew themselves to smithareens. I will never forget the aftermath of that tragedy.

Now, all the kids growing up in the area learn to do this.

Every good Belgian thing becomes French: Fries, Jacques Brel, Tintin, and, erm, that's it.

Hehe...

It's hard to overestimate the impact Asterix has had on the French psyche.

So much so that it's a criminal offense to say Asterix is in any way, shape, or form, related to Belgium.
