Canada has more guns per capita and far less shootings of other people per gun, when compared to the US. This is because of the restrictions in the type of gun that can be owned and the license process that is nescassary to own a gun. Or it could just be that Canadians understand that your not supposed to shoot other people.
Switzerland has almost complete penetration of firearms throughout the community and less firearm deaths per capita than Canada. We should get some Swiss to explain to the Canadians not to shoot other people Smiley: wink2

For those that don't know, you get a rifle to keep at home after you've done your military service in Swizterland. That's their "army", Swiss peasants in their Swiss fields with crummy rifles they've used twice in their lives.

I lived in Geneva for a while, and a few Swiss people told me that this arrangment was the reason Hitler never invaded Switzerland. He was too scared of all these inbred ploughmen getting their shitty rifles out and shooting his Panzers down from the mountains.

How I laughed.

You're pretty uppity for someone from a country that got rolled over. Maybe some inbred citizens with shitty rifles would have done France some good Smiley: laugh

We did have inbred peasants with shitty rifles on the border, and look what happened! We tried, kinda, we failed, totally, we were occupied.

It's still better that being "neutral" during the greatest conflict between good and evil the world had ever seen, and then claiming that Hitler didn't invade cos he was "scared". Hitler didn't invade Sitzerland since they rolled over before a single tank approached the Swiss border.

Anyway, I realise this an uphill struggle, but we have to make ourselves feel better one way or the other. You guys all got France, we got Switzerland.

And Belgium, of course. That's the only reason their country wasn't split between France and Holland.

I don't agree but I'm almost certain that we've had this conversation before. And I'm sure you're more emotionally vested in it than I.

My point was merely to illustrate that firearm control/violence is more multi-faceted than "Country A has more guns than Country B".

We had a plan!

And it was a great, beautiful, wonderful plan.

Then Belgium got invaded and Hitler just went around our plan.

Anyway, WWII discussion is sooooooo boring since it always seems to fall back on the tired and old and, might I add, overdone subject of France's failure.

Or should I say "Delayed Success"?

Yeah, I think so too, a while back.

Not really, I just go through the motions, to be honest. 15 years of living in the UK as a Frenchman tends to do that to you.

Yeah, I agree.

I didn't really have a point per se.
