On March 20, 2006, President Bush wrote:
See, if you're a resident of Tal Afar today, this is what you're going to see: You see that the terrorist who once exercised brutal control over every aspect of your city has been killed or captured, or driven out, or put on the run. You see your children going to school and playing safely in the streets. You see the electricity and water service restored throughout the city. You see a police force that better reflects the ethnic and religious diversity of the communities they patrol. You see markets opening, and you hear the sound of construction equipment as buildings go up and homes are remade. In short, you see a city that is coming back to life.
Today's Tribune wrote:
Shiite militants and police enraged by massive truck bombings in Tal Afar went on a revenge spree against Sunni residents in the northwestern town Wednesday, killing as many as 60 people, officials said.

The gunmen roamed Sunni neighborhoods in the city through the night, shooting at residents and homes, according to police and a local Sunni politician.

Witnesses said relatives of the Shiite victims in the truck bombings broke into the Sunni homes and killed the men inside or dragged them out and shot them in the streets.

Ali al-Talafari, a Sunni member of the local Turkomen Front Party, said the Iraqi army had arrested 18 policemen accused of being involved after they were identified by the Sunni families targeted. But he said the attackers included Shiite militiamen.
[...]
The carnage was the worst bloodshed in a surge of violence across Iraq as militants on both sides of the sectarian divide apparently have fled to other parts of the country to avoid a U.S.-Iraqi security crackdown, raising tensions outside the capital.

The city was an insurgent stronghold until an offensive by U.S. and Iraqi troops in September 2005, when rebel fighters fled into the countryside without a battle. Last March, President Bush cited the operation as an example that gave him "confidence in our strategy."

But even though U.S. and Iraqi forces put up sand barriers around Tal Afar to limit access, the city has suffered frequent insurgent attacks.
Who was it who said that a troop surge in Baghdad would simply result in the insurgents moving to other locations? That's right... pretty much everyone.

Have the troops of the proposed "troop surge" actually been deployed?

its true. anyone with any knoledge of iraqi history, or any history of the middle east could have predicted the outcome. there was a power struggle within iraq before Hussin won the presidency in a DEMOCRATIC election. yep, it was a democracy in a constant state of civil war before Hussin took controll. it wasnt untill he took controll that iraq became a stable country and started making progress.

granted, progress not in a direction we would have liked to see, but certainly better than the civil unrest that plagued iraq before he took office. unrest fueled by the same factors fueling it now. strife from within and pressure from neibhoring countries trying to get a foot hold in the power vacume. same damn players, the only thing that has changed is the year and now we are involved. it was this powerstruggle that permantly soured hussin against iran.

this is not going to end well.

ray charles can see that.

what WILL happen is exactly what even someone as removed as i am have been saying WILL happen since the day W invaded. we WILL pull out in the midst of constant civil unrest. everything WE touched WILL be torn down and destroyed. anyone WE put in power WILL be killed, probably along with their famileys as well. iraq WILL become an islamic ruled country AGAIN. a country who not only hates Israel AGAIN, but will hate us for GENERATIONS to come. death to america will be the national song chanted in the streets. and anyone not seen chganting along will be killed on the spot.

this WILL come to pass. and not because i can see the future, but because i read a little about the past. and if i can see it, how ignorant and arrogant does that make this addministraition? its not rocket science, its common sence. cause and effect.

in the end, the effect of our actions will be significantly worse than doing nothing would have been. iraq WILL become a fundamentalist muslim country. one that WILL be alligned WITH iran instead of opposed to it. now, instead of having iraq as a buffer and antagonist to iran, you will have two large countries who both are hell bent on destroying Israel and who both would rather see a dead american as opposed to talking peace with one. we will end up with a super sized hamas controlling a vast amount of the middle east. toss in syeria, and lebonon working WITH this power bloc and you have hell on earth for israel for the foreable future.

we may be FORCED into starting a war with iran just to save israel. somthing that we wouldnt have been forced to do while hussin was constantly nipping at their heels.
