Only the before pictures:

The after pics are nice. I'd rock an NSX if I couldn't get a Z06 for less money, then spend said money on fuel and tires, because I'd be pitching that SOB sideways.

It was a joke son,a joke I say.

I gotta work on getting my sense of humor across online. H3's are dookie on wheels.

That said, on a serious note, I drive a Saab 9-3 convertible and it is a great sport coupe. Worth looking at.

How much do you want to spend (US dollar-wise), Nobby? The BMW is always a solid choice, but I'd have to go with the Audi. If money isn't too much of an object, take a look at the Tesla, my current infatuation...

I've been checking that thing out too. I'd like to be able to afford it, because I think I can justify it. The only issue I take with it, is the range. I'd like to see it get between 250 and 300 miles to a charge. That would be awesome. It'd be ok for moderate trips, AND fun at the track.

Also, while I like the style of it from the pictures I've seen, I'd like to actually see on in person, so that I can see how it'd fit me, and what type of useable space there is. I'd like to be able to carry a couple of bags (medium sized) with me when I travel to the track, and would love to know if they'd actually fit.

Thanks for the ideas - just a reminder about my constraints.

1. Carbon Emissions - Maximum 165g/km
That rules out any Petrol engine above about 1.6L and most performance diesels.

2. Legroom

3. Budget - I can go up to about 40K ($80K) if I want, but the 1st criterion means I'm unlikely to go near that, and I don't like to spend too much on a motor

4. Driving experience - It has to handle well (Hence nothing American, Shadowrelm) and speed and acceleration are pluses. I like straight-line speed, but I need a car that goes sideways when I want it to go sideways

The new Passat is quite nice (I borrowed a co-worker's) but the 170BHP model is above the CO2 limit. The 140BHP is OK but it corners like a pig. Not for me.

I'd already pretty much ruled out Beemers before I knew the CO2 ceiling. Waaaay overpriced here in UK, and dealer reputation is crap. List price is high to start with, but check the fine print and you find you need to add at least 20% for extras that are standard on everything else.

All in all the Twin Top is looking favoUrite.

Design 1.9TDi
150BHP
132mph
6-speed gearbox
a 'Sport' button that sets the throttle, steering and suspension a little more perky,
roof works from the key-fob (and will also lower/raise while moving up to 18mph for unexpected showers.
All leather interior, and all the gadgets:
Headlamps that turn with the front wheels to point where you're heading on bendy roads - Nobby likes that
Automatic roll-bars that pop up if you over-cook a bend and show the tyres to the sky
Sat-Nav
Climate control
About 55mpg
More trunk space than all the other hard-top convertibles
18" Alloys with low-profile tyres

Well given that 99% of the suggestions were ruled out by the CO2 limit, looks like I'm going for this little baby..

Looks like this with the roof up.

(Those pictures are the 2006 model but the '07 looks almost identical).

Given the emissions limit, I'll have to settle for 150bhp, but apart from trips to Germany I'll rarely be able to take it to 130mph, and compared to anything else that's as green, nothing came even close on performance.

Now assuming the order goes through and I can get one built to my specification in the next month or so, watch it **** down every day this year.

Well, of all those cars, the jag definitely got the most dynamic picture. But even without that, I've ALWAYS loved the look of cars that have round headlights the best. Really really love. So without having an opportunity to drive any of them, my completely uninformed and unimportant vote is for the Jag.

Oh, just plant a few thousand trees and wait for them to mature, then you'll have no C02 problems!

I know nothing of the CO2 emissions (probably ought to look into it considering I'll probably be on the market myself soon) but Saturns seem to be very reliable in my experience.

Yep, just got off the phone with State Farm. Car is totalled, so it looks like I'll be getting a new (or used) car.

My car was so good too :/ I hope I don't get one that gives me lots of problems, but I don't really know what to look for in a reliable car. Open to suggestions; I'm a practical guy. As long as it gets me safely from A to B, has AC, and plays CD's, it's A OK with me. Good mileage and comfort are a plus, appearance isn't important.

I fully admit to being a nub wherein cars are concerned ._. All I know is:

Turn key
Pull lever
Press go pedal
Turn wheel
Use process of elimination to find stop pedal

You should get a skateboard then.

So I finally got approval to order today.

Good News:
I have been allowed the Astra Twin Top (It's basically a Euro-Spec Grand Am with convertible hard top roof) with the spec I want:
  • Silver Metallic Paint
  • Black Leather heated Sports Seats
  • 150BHP Engine (130+mph top speed)
  • 6 Speed Manual Gear Box
  • Cruise Control
  • Sat Nav + CD/MP3 controlled from mouse-wheel on steering wheel
  • Sports Switch for enhanced performance on twistylicious roads
  • 18" Ultra Low Profile alloy wheels
  • Rear Parking Sensor
  • Wind Break
  • Roof raise/lower from remote key-fob for pose effect
  • 55Mpg

Bad News:
The specifications I want mean it has to be custom built, so 10-12 weeks order time Smiley: cry
Roll on July/August Smiley: frown
