Choosing a decent car.

I spend a great deal of my working day on Motorways between meetings, so I need a car that's comfortable.

When I'm not working, I enjoy throwing my automobile around more challenging roads, so I want something that's fun.

I' an lanky cUnt, so I'm limited in what I can drive, and stangely enough, big cars aren't automatically good for me. (It's about the relative distance and angle between Steering Wheel and Pedals, not just legroom). There are small cars I can be comfy in (Mini Cooper, Ford Focus) and big ones I can't physically get into (Range Rover, Jaguar X Type).

Now as you know, I'm of advanced years.

If I get something sporty, I'm in danger of being the epitome of the aging git.

Within my budget are the Audi TT, Astra Twin Top and Beemer M3 soft top.

High risk of looking like a "I'm not really old and Ghey" driver.

Alternatively, I could go for a more appropriate executive car:

There's the new 2007 C Class Merc, the S-Type Jag or maybe an A6

Advice please?

Sporty look or sensible comfort?

Jaguar. I base that on nothing aside from me liking its picture the most.

I'm liking the Astra, and the new TT is rather sharp looking.

If I may throw somthing out there, have you looked into the Toyota/Lexus (not sure what brandname it's out as in the UK) IS/Altezza? The "F" model is sharp looking, has 4 doors, and launches this summer, if I am correct. 400 Horses under the hood, RWD, and a trick exterior, are highlights. The only downside is there is no true manual at this point, but the 8-speed tranny that comes with it, does have a paddle shift that is quite responsive, from initial reviews anyway.

I would also take a good hard look at the new Lancer Evolution, and the Impreza WRX STi, but mainly because they're stupid fast for that price range, and extremely fun to drive.

Yeah yeah, whatever. A car you can pile into wearing your trainers and touch you girlfriend's fanny without arousing any suspicion from passing lorry drivers, and yet perfectly acceptable when choosing to appear a restrained but flash toff at work functions.

I'm limited by CO2 emissions, so the Evo and the Impreza are out of bounds.

Alas.

That also rules out the Vauxhall VX220 (Be still my heart - that thing corners amazingly) and the TVR Tuscan

Co2 emissions? WTH? The sell a car that you can't buy, not because you can't afford it, but because it "pollutes" the environs? That blows. It's also a shame about the TVR too, and the Speedster too. Both are fine drives, not as nice as an Elise though, well, except for the TVR roadsters...OMG they're amazing. I wish I could get one here in the states.

What about a MX-5? I can tell you that they are aboslutely fun to drive, good on petrol, and if you manage to find a Mazdaspeed version from '06, you will not be upset with the lack of trunkspace, considering you can take corners sideways, and with an ear to ear grin on your face.

1. I'm not paying for the car - the people who are have CO2 limits.

2. The Elise is made on the same production line as the VX220, but the 220 leaves the Elise standing

4. What happened to 3?

Yeah, I do like the Beemer but you definitely run the risk of "desperate old geezer on the make" syndrome.

I'd go with the Jag, also basing it on nothing more than the picture.

The '07 Mercedes C Class isn't released until June but the reviews are awesome

I'd avoid the C Class Mercedes, no other reason that the cheap *** syndrome*

As others have stated the M3 means you have accepted you are about to die/pervert

Jags look really nice and ride really well. My boss's wife bought a used Sports series and haven't had an ounce of trouble out of it, they love the car.

* Couldn't afford a real Mercedes

I declined the C Class a few years ago 'cause the build quality was pants, but they really look like they've compensated this time.

Oh what to do. what to do

Lexus IS F

It is badass. I want one, and it's the only thing that could replace the EVO on my short list of rides to own right now, well that and the new Caddy CTS when it hits the streets...but only in a V version, but even then the Lexus would whip it's *** in economy, emissions, and price. That lack of a manual option is killing me though.

Of the rest, the TT or the Astra are tops to me, but because from what I've heard about them both, they are more driver orentied, and look damn stunning in my book.

Drove an IS 320 (I think) a few weeks back and it was like a finely tuned engine in a luxurious room but sadly, mounted on a shopping trolley.

No Lexus for Nobby

I'd wait to drive the F before you decide. It's been lowered an inch, and stiffend at all corners, and designed for luxospeed. It is a direct M3 competitor.

However, it's your car, so if you get something else first, oh well.

Again, not an ideal day to day car. I used to borrow my brother's EVO VIII track car - fine for slapping round bends, but not for arriving at meetings rested and serene

Audi TT or Beamer, but the beamer cannot be red.

Don't get a TT. Unless you live a secret life as a hairdresser. If you want the sporty look with class get a Jaguar XKR. I'd say get an M3 personally, it's a classic. The Mercedes is a nice machine as well.

Of course you could always get a Honda Civic and spend the extra cash painting on flames and stripes, along with making holes in the exhaust for go-faster-noises. With a sweet set-up like that you could go hit the racing scene and teach some young punks how to drive.

No, no, it HAS to be red. Red makes it go faster.

No no. Seeing pictures of him and trying to place him it the red beamer.... Nope. Too gay. Don't go with red. Silver or some such color.

1. When I can afford an XKR, I'll pay someone else to buy and drive my car

2. My beloved's father is an Hairdresser and I won't make any ghey innuendo comments cause she or he will whoop my ****

3. The Civic has amazing figures for performance, corners well but with mischief (Had one on 2 wheels a couple of times) and is great fun. Sadly, my research and extensive investigation has identified that it's a fUcking Honda!

When I want your opinion, I'll give it to you.

Cars are black or silver.

I no longer ride, as I never signed my suicide pact and I always used the throttle as an on/off switch.

I miss my 1973 MV Agusta 750S America (I bought it when it was 4 years old - yes, I'm that old)

But I left my heart with my Laverda Jota
