I like to think I'm of the geeky persuasion, but things like this convince me that I'm really just a geek-wannabe.

I'm not watching YouTube at work but I'll admit to a major loss of geek/nerd cred right now.

I've never seen any of the Lord of the Rings movies and only ever read The Hobbit in 6th grade. All of my Tolkien knowledge is gleaned from other geeks & nerds talking about it.

I might have to turn in my card. I only played AD&D: 2ndV (which I swear by) and not 3rd edition.

If my fellow nerds found out, castration by a Vorpal Sword might follow.

When playing scattergories over the weekend, boyfriend listed "Klingon" as a language. He wins.

I've only played 1st ed.

I thought that added to my cred. People who play 2nd/3rd are posers Smiley: grin

Totally. Also, having 100 zeroxes copies of 1st edition character sheets doesn't lend itself to welcoming change.

ThirdEds would kill you mightily with their Spear of Geek Impalement +1, if they heard such blasphemy. There is only 3rd Edition and no other in their minds.

Does it make me nerdcore to admit I played Rifts?

Not really. Gurps though, is unassailable nerd credential.

I'm so happy that I don't know what either of those things are.

Phase 10 is no geekier than Yahtzee and neither of those are even remotely as geeky as say...oh, going to a LARP event.

I was a fan of MERP, which combined the geek factors of Lord of the Rings and cumbersome table-top roleplaying. Plus, I've jerked off to an encyclopedia before.

Who hasn't? Between that and National Geographic we can be sexually satisfied as well as informed without all the money wasted on ****. No Penthouse letters though.

I've never played D&D or any table top role playing game.

I have posted on a MMO site for 4 years now, that has to give me some street cred, right?

I understood everything he was talking about. [:embarrassed:]

Also it slightly bothers me when people say 'dash' when they mean 'hyphen' but I mostly got over that a long time ago.

I went to my first sf Con in '75 and war game convention in '76. Play Red box, 1st, 2nd and 3 ed rule DnD. I even still have the hand written character sheet of my 1st mage, rolled in 76. Jonwin has me beat though as that war gaming convention was his and a friend's idea, so while I was fighting off gamers in the dealer's room (Dealer's room was in the Glass Pavilion, but only a ivy league nerd would know where it is.) Jonwin was busy GM'ing various games.

The HP 35 and 45 I used for math were my dad's as was the first mini computer he let me use. I was the only nerd at MICA, it seems for I had to help my class mates learn Scientific Notation during our nature drawing studio class.

I love Steve Jackson games, specially Munchkins. Also know most of the folks that work at Looney_Labs.

Off course I posting this off my fifth home built computer. And about to load LOTRO to meet up with guild mates from NWN.

I do pwn Jonwin on computers, as he didn't have a modem on his used 486,when we met. His next computer was one of my hand-me-downs. All upgrades have been done with my help, since the guy he had built his current computer, wasn't a gamer.
