I know it can be difficult to quantify. I know that line can be hard to see. In this instance, I think it's pretty clear.

Quote:
(03-15) 20:57 PDT -- A jury in Redwood City convicted a man Thursday of kidnapping an East Palo Alto woman in a plot with the woman's boss to rape and murder her after she spurned his sexual overtures.

Of course my first question (of many... so many) is: wtf does a combined jewelry store/grocery store look like, exactly?

Well, since the art of subtle humor is apparently dead Smiley: mad I'll note something about the story itself. Namely that...
Quote:
She was supposed to be taken to an accomplice's house [...] But the plot fell apart when the house was unavailable, and Gonzalez took her to another woman's home, witnesses said.
...made me think of the bit in Pulp fiction with Vincent & Jules at Jimmy's house.

"No, you can not rape her here! My wife'll be home in twenty fucking minutes!"

Seriously. What the hell? I mean, are these guys such refined rapists that they need the trappings of civilization around them in order to carry out the deed?

"We're not animals, after all."

It's the mind of the chauvinist male. I can't count the number of times I've heard uncles, cousins, etc reference women who "played hard to get" and then "later found out they looooved it". The faux-romance is part of the domination. It's bullsh*t rationalization of what is rape. For the record, though, I don't get where it's hard to draw the line for sexual harassment. If you've ever been through it, you feel the line.

Oh, and jewelry/clothes/cash checking sections are fairly common in the big latino grocery stores.

The woman had reportedly been employed for a few months at Zambrano's jewelry store inside the Mi Rancho market in Menlo Park before she was fired.

On the afternoon of June 10, 2005, Gonzalez is alleged to have abducted the woman at gunpoint in Menlo Park and driven her to Fresno.

According to the alleged victim - a woman in her 20s from Mexico whose name was withheld in the trial to protect her identity - Gonzalez told her during the drive that he, another man and Zambrano were going to rape and kill her, and then "bury her inside a very deep well," she testified.

I'll try in his place.

Well, she already accepted a job from him, and has been cashing her paycheck every week, and obviously the guy has been getting sex whenever he gave any other woman money so he was just confused and she didn't try hard enough to explain to him that she wasn't a hoe.
