So I haven't had a cigarette since Sunday. Those who have been around the boards for a while know this isn't the first time I've tried to quit smoking, but here we go again. I'll try not to be cranky.

Anyone quit for New Years? Still quits?

I quit, and then went back.

So, I bought some patches, and Allen Carr's book . I read the book until the last 9 pages, and now i don't want to finish it since it'll mean I'll have to quit. And i haven't used the patches, since he says they suck.

I hate smoking, and then I love it.

I did the exact same thing with Allen Carr's book. I was ready, I wanted to quit then when I got to the last few pages I set it down and it's still in my night stand. One day, I'll have will-power to finish it.

Good for you! I quit two or three times and started up again since you quit, haha. However, the fact that cigarettes are going to be over $6 a pack around here soon might help. I plan on spending what I would on cigarettes on things I want for the next month or so, guilt free. That always helps.

Very true when in comparison to that canyon you call your rear floodgate. Definately like tossing a cocktail weenie down a hallway.

What's so special about this book that you guys can't even finish reading the dang thing? You HAVE to quit if you read it? Does a little girl call your phone and say "7 days" if you do?

I still smoke cigs - about 3 a day/a pack a week - but I just recently ran out of the green goodness and can't seem to procure any around here. So, I've given that up for now. On the bright side, I now have access to my fucked-up dreams again. Yay!

I don't know. It's psychological, I guess.

When reading the book, I was like "i'm totally gonna quit the second I finish it." And I had no doubt that not only would I do it, but that it would be easy.

Then I got near the end of the book, knowing that if I finished it I would either stop, or feel really crap for not stopping. And I guess I took the easy option of just not finishing it.

It's all psychological: the book, the addiction, the aborted reading, life...

Me too, I'm going to spend what you would spend on cigarettes on chocolate and Napa Valley Cab.

This post makes me want to smoke a delicious blend of fine domestic and Turkish tobaccos mixed with appropriate amounts of fiberglass and formaldehyde.

I quit all the time. I've started to become a pro, methinks. I started when I was ~12 and smoked for 6 years. Then I quit for another 6 years, then took it up again. It was those dirty clove cigarettes that got me started again. Does cigar smoking count? I've always smoked cigars and when I was big into golf I smoked probably one cigar/week or a tin of cigarillos every other week.

Quitters never win and winners never quit! You should just say f'uck it and get down to business with both. Nothing more satisfying than putting your hair up in curlers, lighting a perfectly rolled fine tobacco smoke, and slapping the **** out of an unruly child.

I smoked for 14 years before really quitting the first time when I got pregnant. I had always used the "I know I'll quit when I get pregnant, so I'm not going to worry about it now" excuse up until then. I didn't smoke the entire time I was pregnant, or for a substantial amount of the time I was breast feeding. Then, when everything went to hell I started up again and it's been a back and forth since then.

I'm feeling good about it this time though.

Mr. Thumb has smoked off and on. The most he would smoke would be maybe a pack every two weeks or so. But with his military retirement and the relocation we just went through, he started to increase his smoking.

Until our daughter went outside one day and she told him in with a serious face that she didn't want him to smoke and watch him die of lung cancer.

He hasn't smoked since.
