I just found it On-Demand and watched the 4th season nearly straight through... I must say I am rather impressed... I heard that this season is the worst.. but I liked it a lot... so I am thining that the prior seasons must be off the hook. I never really took an interest in it before because I live in Baltimore.. so I was like "why should I care? I know what goes on here".. not it turns out that is the reason that I like the show so much...

Very raw.. very violent.. and very very sad... The school situation is the biggest tragedy in this city..... It really disgusts me... that people put politics over education of kids..... re-districting.. It's all very disturbing.. Watching The Wire has helped remind me that while people go on ******** about world affairs in foreign lands overseas..... there is a constant **** storm all throughout this country.. everywhere.... and one that no one wants to seem to deal with.. It is just something that people make a career out of tiptoeing around..... The best politicians seem to be the ones who can DODGE the real problems with more skill...

It almost makes me wish that I would become a politician.. but I think if I did, people would get all Ides of March on my ***...

Probably the best show on TV. Although living near Baltimore you might find annoying errors or something, I couldn't say.

Your mother's a *****. You like to jack off dogs. That's right, you heard me. You like to grab that dog by the bone and rub it like a ski pole. Your dad? Gay. Your priest? Straight. **** off and let me post. It's not true, it's all in good fun. Now go away.

I haven't seen as much of this show as I'd like, but what I have seen is riveting television. And sad, yes.

The strongest thing about it is that they take the time to actually develop all of the characters. There really are virtually no one dimensional cardboard cut outs, and if it makes sense in the storyline, they'll have entire episodes or series of episodes following a character who previously had 10 minutes total screen time in the series.

I've only seen about 4 episodes of it but it rocks. I'll have to check my On-Demand, see if it's there.

They do a LOT of name dropping, which I get a kick out of. Just about all of the streets that they mention are real... although the actual gang territories are fictional (of course) and the neighborhoods that they take place in aren't really so much the trouble neighborhoods.... although they do mention many (Park Heights, North Ave) which are infamous for their open air drug markets... If you're white there you need to worry more about the cops.. they WILL pull you over because why else would a white guy be there unless they were doing something illegal? lol

The only major name change is the fictional "Lincoln Park" which they show says is Bmores dumping ground for bodies.... I can only assume that this is a renaming of our Druid Hill Park.. which pretty much is the same thing..

But they really called it with the politcal aspects of it... with the schools and the governor and the police situations. Everyone here knows how that **** goes.. And now the previous White-Irish(not Italian)mayor of our city (who promised all the same things as the mayor in the show) is now the governor of our State.

It's a shame more people don't watch the show though.. the social commentary is a nice hefty horse-pill of reality.

I only caught one episode of the show last time we had HBO, but I see the film crews around the city.

Jonwin knows at least one of the actors from back when he was working backstage watching the child actors between their scenes at Center Stage. A few have also been to where he works, but then he gets to meet alot of well known people on the Ship. Nicole Kidman visited the Civil War Museum couple years ago. He was off that day and the part timer didn't have a clue as to who she was.

Comcast is offering HBO for the next 6 months free in the city, so hopefully I be able to watch it On Demand after March 1st. I'm also hoping to be able to watch the episodes of Rome that I haven't yet seen.

Man, they should really GIVE access to that show to everyone who lives in the city. Yall deserve the credit. Luckily I live 3 blocks outside of Murdermore... although that's closer than a bulletsthrow away. hehehe I keed I keed. The show I think exxagerates it a little bit. I don't think groups of gang bosses meet up on local playgrounds during the day and stuff like that.

Elne, you should really check it out. Totally worth it. It's not just another cop drama... like CSI or Law and Order... like Smasheroo said, it really brings life to the characters... and being a native you should be able to recognize all the politcal rangling that's in it.. if you ever watch the 11 o'clock news.

I'm planning to get the earlier seasons on DVD someday if the library has them. It's been one of the many shows that I always want to watch, but can't justified on my limited income paying extra for.

Some reason I found the more I get to know this city the more I like living here. It can be upsetting to see some of the ways politicians been robbing the citizens, so a few neighborhoods can be exclusive. The number of boarded up houses depressing with all the homeless people on the streets. Having to wait for the dealers to get out of the middle of the street so you can get to your home, 2 blocks away. Jumping whenever you hear a car backfire. Yet there is so much history and character to much of the city, that I'm never bored while having to ride a bus or van along areas I wouldn't otherwise would have no reason to visit.

Nice thing about never driving, is I get to actually look at the details I would otherwise miss if I had my own car. Since most of the people who get pick up by the van driver live in worst neighborhoods then I do, I gotten to know the back roads in very run down neighborhoods.

As to the schools, I at one time actually tried to be active and was well known for speaking at meetings and trying to fight North Ave. Now that I can't get out much, I gave up on the system. Not one of my girls finish HS, instead dropping out and getting their GED's. Most of their classes were a joke with bad teachers and kids who didn't care. When they did have a good teacher, the girls liked going, but most good teachers end up leaving to work in school systems that actually seem to care about the kids actually learning something. Girls always said they learn more at home then at school, with all the resources we made sure they had at their finger tips.
