HA! I love it. Some punk kid tries to rob a group of elderly tourists and gets his stupid *** killed. /sniffle It's moments like this that make me proud to be an American. Oddly enough, it's also moments like this that make me shamed to be associated with a country that spawned a woman dumb enough to think the mugging was a joke.

I am also very proud to live in a Country that would allow the Mugger's family to sue someone acting in self-defense.

FYI - Charles Bronson faked his death and is no living the good life in Costa Rica, killing thugs on a semi retired basis.

Move to Texas my friend, right now the state legislature is about to pass a law that would allow anyone protection under the law for using force against anyone trying to commit bodily harm to them. If you are in your car and someone tries to carjack you, just put 3 holes in them and try not to run a red-light leaving. Same goes for robberies in your home and walking your dog I assume.

The law has not passed yet but the last update I read said it already had 65-75% approval.

Costa Rica was pretty much the last bastion of peace in El Sur. So much for that.

Wonder what day in March the Lifetime movie script will be finished. I'd think probably the 2nd or 3rd.

I didn't read the whole article but from this I'm assuming that the American must have been raped, forced into a life of prostitution, discovered that the assailant was either her husband or hired by him, or actually *be* Tori Spelling.

If none of these is true, I'm afraid we're looking at the Hallmark Channel.

You'd think that a spry, agile 20-year-old hooligan would be able to evade a 70-year-old tourist fairly easily, but I guess not.

Hmmm... I heard about what I assume was an earlier version of that law, or a version that passed in another state.

The problem with the law, and why it had difficulty passing, was that the definition of "self-defense" in the law had been widened to a point where a person who "felt threatened", justified or not, could "stand their ground" and confront the person they felt threatened by.

Quite frankly, that scares me. I've known too many jittery, racist, paranoid old ladies (who are allowed to own handguns) to be comfortable with a law that condones them shooting a person who has done nothing more wrong than walking towards them, or standing near them, or existing somewhere in their vicinity, because they felt threatened. "Stand your ground" laws need to be handled very carefully, and I personally wouldn't want to be in any state that doesn't require a person to verify that they are actually in danger BEFORE they shoot me.

I agree with you, there is already a law in place that allows you to meet force with force, this is just broadening it. Before this passes you could not shoot someone who was coming at you with a fork, but you could take the fork from them and stab them in the throat with it and be fine under the law.

It really is sort of unnecessary as statistics prove that in the state's history not a single person who pleaded self defense has ever been convicted (that is what the news told me and that is what I choose to believe).

I am sure some have been convicted, but if you are on your property and shot someone, it would be hard for you to be convicted. This state loves their protection of property and firearms.

He was a US military veteran.

See, that new Rocky was in fact quite plausible.

There was a women, forgot where in the country that went into some agency(it mightve been a Lawyer office or something) and it was called "Guns for Hire". He went in asking how much it would be to kill her husband. At first the secretary or whatever thought she was joking but after a minute or two it was completely obvious. I just want to laugh in her face!
