I told him to mail Michael Dell directly, that might get some pants burning somewhere because Mike plays WoW too.

Not only will you most likely receive a new computer, but you also will have the added benefit of getting someone fired!

Double Bonus!

I did this with the second person I talked with. Since I wasn't getting anywhere with Tech support or CS, I asked to speak with a manager. After being put on hold for 5 mins, the CSR finally came back on and said since I refused to trouble-shoot the problem myself, the best they could do was have my ship it to them. I caved and sent it off yesterday.

I think they owe me a refund of the difference between the on-site warranty I bought and just the standard warranty, since I wasn't getting on-site service.

I just may write a letter to the president/CEO stating how unhappy I am. Thanks Neph.

Extended warranties are for suckers. Come on, kids, you know better.

Honestly, did you try lying.

You have to know enough to know how to bullsh'it about inspecting a computer.

I once called to order a Dell, asked a few questions about the type of memory it had and was given very suspect information. So I asked around on another forum and was told that the sales guy didn't have a clue and following his advice (it was regarding DDR vs. non-DDR SDRAM) would short out my board. So I wrote a stern letter to Dell and CC:'d it to the CEO. About eight months later, I receieved a "Sorry 'bout that" from some head honcho at Dell.

I was at least hoping for $10 off my next Dell or something...

If you're ever interested in Dell again, just give me a shout. Hell, you can use one of my employee discount coupons that I probably won't use.

I am really glad I decided not to get an Alienware laptop and got an HP instead. Alla, you have to have some pull in the PC gaming industry. You mean you can't just call Alienware's CEO directly and give him the ol' "so your CS is teh suck, how would your sales do if I post a write up on my site about your company". Isn't that what big wig's do in the corporate world?

alienware is like buying a BMW.

you pay for hype.

i build my machines. its cheaper, and i get exactly what i want. my last build? it would have cost about 3k from alienware. cost me about 800 bucks. coarse i used the case i bought 5 years ago.

water cooled? please. do you realize how little of an improvement you get from overclocking a machine to need water cooling? you have to download a special program just to measure it it is soo small.

not to mention, in a year, off the shelf machines will be faster for half the price.

I remember this thread about someone using a pool's water system in their cooling system. Said it made the computers hooked onto the line run better.

mosty its a solution now and a closed system. not even water.

reguardless, unless your runing a board with more than one processor on it, or you overclocked the system to squeeze a few more drops of blood out of it, you dont need it. its a "gee wiz" typ of thing that does little but make it harder to replace anything inside.

there are a couple new things that are justnot taking off right now too. SLI and crossfire. no one is using SLI technology. and only city of heros is even talking about mabe using it sone day. crossfire is dead in its tracks for now. linking two video cards together is producing mixed results at best, and in areas where there is an improvement, it is so small, the nextgeneration of single cards outperforms them.

the real advances are being made in memory, not processing power. for instance, a AMD 3000 is only 2.2 GHZ, and the AMD 4200 duel core is only 2.4 to 2.6 GHZ. thats how small the advancements in processing power are jumping. most of the bang comes from system memory and video card memory and OCASSIONALLY advancements in video card technology.

buying a top of the line, latestand greatest maching is like betting on a horse before it is even trained to race.

better off buying lastyears tried and true, adn building it yourself so it doesnt cost you an arm and a leg to upgrade it in 2 or 3 years.

justmy openion. alienware, falcon, and a few others, just hype. and the advancements being made are so small, nextyears off the shelf will outperform this years cutting edge. if you have the money, go for it, every one needs a hobby. if you dont, build it/

WoW Shadowrelm first time I have agreed with you that I can recall.

Looks like it wasn't the video for Alla but the MB itself. My decision to purchase and Alienware was simply... tax write off. Well, and the way it looks. Smiley: grin

But sumbitch is heavy tho!

As a devotee of Allakhazam I am taking his advice as gospel.

I have cancelled my order for an Alienware Laptop, but ordered a set of matching Korean toddlers.

Hey Alla, Just a FYI I hope you add all that data backed up . It is a standard practice to format and reinstall the orginal OS back onto the machine when it gets RMA'd. Also as you said. nothing to you can do about the warrenty what they say goes. they are sure of that one thing. Your best bet would have been to ask if they had any local service centers. Likely hood of that would be slim. But I really hope all that data was backed up cause there is a large chance you could lose it. Also what I would think about doing is getting used to it. More and more these days companys are fronting less and less for the in home service and more and more for the RMA. That really sucks man. But all I can say is get used to it.

So now I've just cancelled my "seoultoddlers.com" order and now I'm struggling to get my Visa accepted on "beijingkiddyblinkies.com"

Advice please:

Is it worth paying the extra $1.95 for the "Bubble Wrap" delivery option?

They replaced my quad 7900s with a single 8800 GTX and swore it would be faster that way. (I'm kind of skeptical about that). I just got it back this morning, but whoever installed the video card forgot to ***** it down and it was sitting on the bottom of the computer, fallen out in transit. When I put it back in, of course it didn't work. So back to the old drawing board. At least this time since it isn't water cooled they will send someone here to fix/replace it.

They... Didn't ***** it down? They installed an 8800 in a top end computer and didn't ***** it down? That's like swapping a car engine out and forgetting to attach the motor mounts. Whoever was responsable for that should be fired. Shear force on your PCI express card slot may also have damaged the motherboard too.

Sadly enough that kinda neglect happens alot. I get calls all day long from the service centers not plugging in any cables to some guy that got his computer back with no motherboard in it. (Yes the Processor heatsink ram and everything else was unscrewed and sitting in the case. That person that did the repair should be fired but good luck with that happening

Hey I feel for the OP here, because I got the Aurora m9700 laptop and it is an amazing machine.....when it is working. I bought it this September, and since then it has gone down THREE times. First memory, then 1 hard drive, then the other hard drive.

Alienware makes some VERY buggy machines it seems. Luckily, each time they sent the new parts cost free to me, but it is a matter of principle. When you spend a few thousand dollars for a high tier machine, this stuff shouldn't happen. Each time I had to completely reboot my machine too, so anything saved in there, say goodbye.

Just a heads up to other potential Alienware customers. You take a risk buying from them, so make sure you get a warrenty or something, because I can assure you that eventually, something WILL go wrong with your comp.
