Guess selling your soul to the Devil paid off, huh? Those rigs cost between $5,359 and $8,218.

What a ludicrous dilettantish extravagance! Slippery slope to diamond studded celery slicers.

isnt that a bit of bait and switch? that is not legal, you could persue this to get your money back, or force them to uphold their end of the contract.

15 minutes with Paris? That has to be the cheapest 15 minutes of fame ever.

Apparently it's a standard package deal when you buy a former Soviet Republic.

Otherwise it costs 200 Gil

Kudos on cashing in. Lord knows I would have done the same. The thing is that you will have a hard time getting any sympathy going down the whole "I made millions selling my site and bought an uber computer that you aren't even good enough to touch and it broke down, now I want you to listen to me complain about it". Feel bad for you, I really do.

It would be far more interesting if you used your money to fly to Miami and beat the Alienware techies with a pillow case full of Silver Dollar coins, preferrably the 1921 'Peace' variation for the irony..

No, it's standard practice.

You should've. I want one of those things.

And don't mind the 'selling your soul to the Devil' thing. I would've done the same thing. For less.

Smash, we do 300 million page views a month and have over 10 million unique visitors a month. We're currently ranked no 837 in size among all sites of all languages in the world. I seriously doubt any site reaches more PC game players than we do. IGN/Gamestop probably reaches more gamers in general, but more console than PC. If we run a detailed review telling people to not buy Alienware, I guarantee that will affect their sales. I actually don't want to do it because I have preferred over the years to not rock the boat, but I do think this is a serious issue. Had I known the warranty did not cover most issued with my computer, I would not have bought it. So I may decide to not write something up simply because it can have such a significant impact upon this company. Something to sleep on.

Oh and yeah in the fine print of the warranty it says they can at their discretion not do the on site repair, so basically the warranty is worthless.

This is so weird because I just had this happen to me, too. I have the same system and it worked fine Friday night. I turn it on Saturday morning and nothing... the lights turn on, the fans start up, but nothing else. No video, no sound of windows loading, nothing. I also got the on-site warrenty and the computer isn't even a year old until August.

I called tech support and requested someone to come fix it. Nope, can't do that. They wanted me to open it up and figure out what the problem was myself and then they would see if it required someone to replace a part, which is all the on-site service does. On-site service does not include trouble-shooting they told me.

I explained that I'm not a computer tech and if it were my car that was having problems, I would take it to a person that is qualified to determine what is wrong with it. I wouldn't do that myself.

So anyways, my computer is now on it's way to Miami. This is my second Alienware. My first one was fine while under warranty, but now 1 month after the warranty has expired, it's having heat problems. I won't be buying another Alienware, that's for sure.

I have decided if I have any problems with mine, I am shipping it to Kao if he can't walk me through the diagnosis and repair. I have never worked on water cooled before, guess it is time to start learning.

First talk to the customer service supervisor. If he/she doesn't cave, then write it and send a copy to the president/CEO.

Not only will you most likely receive a new computer, but you also will have the added benefit of getting someone fired!

Double Bonus!

Good advice. Might not pan out but an articulate and friendly plea usually goes a long way. Though most customer service types don't have 'supervisors' because the company wishes the CSR to be the alpha and omega. Otherwise people would always bypass the CSR and the supervisor would be to busy doing support work to do their actual job and CSR would be ineffectual. That being said in cases where CSR is lacking and there is no supervisor it often pays to try calling a couple times. Difference in quality between one CSR and another is often huge.

Hell even in a small case like my Minidisc player which I paid for the extended uber warranty and they then tried to shaft me and have it sent off for warranty work rather than replace it with a new model like promised was dealt with by me being persistent but friendly and demanding the service promised.

I once called to order a Dell, asked a few questions about the type of memory it had and was given very suspect information. So I asked around on another forum and was told that the sales guy didn't have a clue and following his advice (it was regarding DDR vs. non-DDR SDRAM) would short out my board. So I wrote a stern letter to Dell and CC:'d it to the CEO. About eight months later, I receieved a "Sorry 'bout that" from some head honcho at Dell.

I was at least hoping for $10 off my next Dell or something...

That's not true, they just usually have an 'Escalation' path as opposed to being able to hand you off to a supervisor. I find the words "just write me an escalation ticket" to be highly effective.

Yep. One of my favorite variations is, "You don't want to talk to me. Trust me on this. Just send me up the line now, and we'll both be much better off."
