Wow. Just... wow. I have a healthy respect for T-storms and can only imagine what it would be like to go inside one strapped to a parachute. I've been near some big ones and it is not fun at all. The only thing I don't understand is why she didn't die from hypoxia. Those altitudes will kill you in less than two minutes if you aren't acclimated.

"The 2005 World Cup winner..."

I'm sure that helped a lot.

Luck of the draw. A male glider caught up in the same storm died of hypoxia.

Women require less oxygen than men, and have less muscle mass to burn it off. Could be the whole story.

Pretty remarkable.

I wonder if they wear oxygen tanks for these events? Those kind of heights would require one, but I can't imagine that they would normally operate that high. That other guy died from that very thing, so maybe not.

You think about it, 32,000' is where airliners operate. Crazy.

It doesn't mention oxygen masks, and I've never seen a paraglider wearing one. Granted, I've never watched a competition either.

I can't believe they'd expect to go even half that high. This was a freak accident.

Tenzing Norgay used to paraglide that high without oxygen all the time. Of course when I say paraglide, I actually mean jump on the back of a giant eagle from his house at the peak of Everest, punch the eagle in the face and demand it give him a ride.

Reinhold Messner used to inhale sherpas like an Aston Martin Vantage snorts the white lines off the road.
