Lost is anyway. After 6 hours of complete **** at the end of 2006, the loss of one of the most intriguing characters on the show, and an ok but less than spectacular second half premiere, my interest in the show was officially renewed last night.
I found Desmond's episode to be fresh and straightforward, having the same air of mystery and interest as we saw in season 1. The cherry on top being the good ole plot twist that has been missing from this show for such a long time that I'd forgotten what it was like to be surprised while watching it.
Spoilers begin:
Despite feeling like a lot was revealed, I'm not completely clear on what exactly they were trying to explain about Desmond. I had thought that what they were saying is that turning the key allowed him to go back and live everything again and that the reason he can now see the future is because he's already lived through all of it again. Does this mean that sometime in the future, he is once again shot back in time to right after he blows the hatch? (appearing on the grass in a similar fashion as he did in his flat) That ring shop lady appears in next week's episode, so how the hell does that work? Are they all just psychic freaks messing with his head? Is she one of the "bad guys" that are hinted at when Ben states that they are the "good guys"?
Anyway, one trivial thing that made me happy was being able to recognize where they filmed things. That last scene with Desmond and Penny was filmed at the Bishop Museum, which I just visited a couple weeks ago!
