Flea got it for me for Christmas but it plays at a crawl on my machine. I couldn't even complete the tutorial battle as the screen would drraaaaagggg and then snap at 50mph as soon as the armies were out of view.

At least it does at the "Let the computer read your specs and decide what are the best levels" setting. I haven't tried to gimp everything down to the minimums.

Really? I never had any issues with it. Other than the complete lack of diplomacy being a preposterous joke and the AI being so weak that the only way to play a challenging game is to intentionally hamstring yourself.

Never crashed though.

There are various bugs for Medieval II total war which is not fixed by a patch. Luckily there is a TWII "lite" mod with attempts to correct bugs not already fixed by a patch. Found at http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=72874

Below is a full list of changes with TWII lite mod by Candelarius

Change Log:

* Adds English Armored Sergeants, HRE Dismounted Gothic Knights, and Venician Dismounted Broken Lances to the campaign game.
* Includes zxiang1983's Two-handed unit animation fix (some units that use two-handed weapons didn't function properly).
* Includes Lusted's Venetian Archer and Heavy Infantry armor upgrade fix.
* All factions are unlocked.
* Includes zxiang1983's ballista/cannon tower fix.
* Includes various corrections to the traits file (export_descr_character_traits.txt). Corrections include the following:

1. Added triggers to princess traits.
2. Corrected error where Great Cathedral doesn't grant bishop trait.
3. Corrected error where "BoringSpeaker" trait had no effects.
4. Corrected error where "WifeIsFertile" trait only effected admirals and not other family members.
5. Corrected error where "ReligionStarter" trait wasn't available to family members.
6. Corrected error where "LoyaltyStarter" trait wasn't available to family members.
7. Corrected error where Orthodox factions could not acquire bishops.
8. Corrected issue where generals governing castles could easily acquire "BadTaxman" trait (Trigger governing19).

* Includes various corrections to the ancillaries file (export_descr_ancillaries.txt). Corrections include the following:

1. Reduced chances of generals acquiring pagan magician ancillary.
2. Corrected error where non-Christian generals could acquire Crusader ancillaries.
3. Corrected error that made Christian factions have "slaver" ancillary and not Mesoamericans (should be opposite).
4. Removed block that prevented European factions from acquiring basic ancillaries. For example, many ancillaries include this block: ExcludeCultures northern_european, mesoamerican. However, it seems clear that the block was meant only for Mesoamericans, and not Europeans (example: spymaster ancillary, treasurer, architect, etc).
5. Removed block that prevented Greek-culture characters from acquiring eunuch ancillary (they were strangely excluded whereas other factions were not).
6. Corrected error where non-Christian factions could acquire ancillary "Peter the Hermit".

I don't know about that, they even lost to Flemish peasants a couple of centuries ago. And that's about as low as you can get I'ld say.

The last successful invasion of England was in 1066, by the French. Where they succeeded, the SPanish, Germans and a whole bunch of others have failed.

Back then, they hadn't yet gotten into their garlic-eating cheese-surrendering monkeydom.

Right Olivier?

Damn right!

Indeed, the famous Three Lions (as in "Three lions on a shirt... England's still dreaming...") were from Guillaume Le Conquerant. I always smile when I hear shaved-heads, tatooed, facist hooligans talking about them (apart from you, Nobbs).

Anyway, I won't bore you guys with Charlemagne, 1066, the Hundred Year wars, the Napoleon wars, or WWI, conlficts in which we showed our true military worth. Just cos we lost one battle during WWII shouldn't mean we suck in video games.

Jonwin would point out to you that Napolean was not French, he was Corsican.
French Soldiers however have usually fought bravely. Just look at Crecy, Agincourt, Poitiers, Verdun.

That's true, but Corsica is French.

For now, at least.

Exactly.

Especially Verdun. It's hard to udnersestimate the psychology fo France after WWI. Most of it was fought on our terrirtory. We suffered the most casualties on a death/inhabitants ratio. Not only that, but war in the trenches was incredibly horrid. And all that for a few hundred metres. After all these horrors, we were kinda tired of killing other Europeans for the sake of it. And then the ***** came...

Oh yeah, France had it's moments of glory, but years like 1302 weren't exactly the best of examples of this Smiley: grin

I don't think it was the losing of the battle, I think it was the colaborating after it, that puts France in a bad light.

Personally, I know what the French fighting forces are capable of, why they're not used is beyond me. That's another reason that I think the French get a black eye on the war front.

Yeah, it was a "dark moment in history", as our history teacher put it before skipping on to the Liberation.

The effect of WWI I was talking about before caused this collaboration from some of the French people. But a few others resisted. And the vast majority did neither, they lived on with their little lives, hoping to save their own necks.

It's not pretty, but most ordinary people had neither a say nor a choice in this.

I was waiting for that one. Smiley: laugh

I haven't been able to pick up TW II yet, mostly because my good PC is still sitting in ruins, and I can't figure out why it keeps getting stuck in the boot process. One day, when I'm not so lazy at home, I'll get around to it.
