If you want something bad enough, you take the time to learn. Even begging on the streets you should be able to pick up the word BUS and gesticulate wildly enough for someone to get the idea within a day. I agree, she had no motivation. You can bet your sweet *** if it were me I would be doing everything in my power to get home, not just sit in misery begging or staying at a homeless shelter, not learning even the basics of the native language.

Edit to add Oh look!! My post count is 11111. Cool

I do beleive that was the point of my post... Kinda hard to not know that is was a true story when all over the news were reports about "THE REAL TERMINAL!" plastered all over just before the movie came out.

Smiley: schooled

Posting something that makes you look like an idiot, then coming back with a post saying "Um yeah, I knew that, duh!" does not make you look any smarter, nor does it entitle you to think you "schooled" anyone. You fail at teh interwebs.

You could have fooled me there. That's all I see from you, espeically in that thread you made on the WoW forum.

If I would have used a smilie after my post, would that have made you understand? If you don't understand satire, I guess I can't help you.
Satire only works if it's done skillfully with wit and humour. You did not accomplish either, however you did fail skillfully.

Buy a map with what? She had no idea where she was. Probably spent all of her money on the 2 buses. Was begging so she could eat. Probably didn't have any formal education. It sounds stupid to us yes. Wouldn't be surprised if she didn't have a phone number to call, can't look one up because you're 2000km from home and none of your relatives are in the phone book. Could you walk 2000km with no food, no possessions, unable to communicate with anyone and not even knowing which direction to go? When you're 51 years old? Would you even risk it? You can't pickup the language because you're a homeless bum that noone will talk to. You get put in a homeless shelter with homeless people who won't talk to you because they don't understand you, therefore you don't learn the language.

Um yeah, I think I might risk that. What kind of idiot wouldn't, other than the one in this article? You'd rather stay in the place that you don't speak the language, have no food or possessions? Hope you never get really lost, because you're fucked if you do. No wait, I take that back, please get lost. Really, really lost.

<=== No sense of direction whatsoever.

When I lived in San Diego, some friends and I drove to Las Vegas. It's a straight shot North on the I-15. And we missed Vegas. Entirely. We were an hour and a half past Vegas when we realized somehow we missed it.

Sand. sand. sand. sand. cactus. ooh a tumbleweed! sand. sand. sand. glass pyramid. rollercoasters. giant flashing signs of various colors. sand. sand. sand. cactus.

The research study showed that the crappy bus systems were responsible for the entire homeless problem in that country.

Actually, it's not as hard to "miss Vegas" as it might seem. When you're coming in from the SW on I15 you hit Henderson first. It's about 20-25 more minutes before you hit the strip (which is presumably where you want to go when you go to Vegas). The whole while you're hitting areas with suburbs and hotels and various buildings. Then you hit 4 exits along the strip, then you hit North Vegas and you're back in the desert. Those four exits are really close to eachother. You could literally not pay attention for about 2 minutes and miss Vegas.

I'm sorry but 25 years makes you a ******. If you really wanted to get home you could. I think she just lacked the motivation to get back home. The only reason they knew where she came from was because some student that knew her language just happened to hear her singing? If it wasn't for that she would have been gone longer, stupid *****.

If you was lost in a country where nobody spoke your language and you didn't understand anyone I'm pretty sure you'd at least in a year learn some basics of their language to get by. I'm sure if she really tried then she could have gotten back. Draw, scream, whatever there's other ways to communicate.

gotta remember that this is a 3rd world country. gauranteed that she cant read. im willing to bet that she couldnt point to her town on a map. probably lives in a village that wouldnt show up on a map anyway.

so you guys are saying that if someone ran up to you screaming nonsense and pointing in all directions, you would take the time to try and figure out what they are saying? come on, you'd roll your eyes and cross the street to get away from the "crazy". noone would interact with her because they assumed she was some insane homeless chick. so if everyone thinks your crazy, do you risk hoofing it on foot in some random direction, hoping that you'll come across some free food on your journey? third world countries arent exactly known for their generosity to each other.
#51 Feb 12 2007 at 8:41 PM Rating: Good
So who said she was running up to people screaming and yelling? Seems like she was more timid than anything, hardly a person to be taken as a "crazy".
