The pipsqueak is finally old enough and has shown he can do well out in public time and time again, so tonight, the fam leaves for a little trip away. A few months ago we found the trailer to the movie "Night At The Museum" and our older son drooled over seeing it. Hubby took him when it opened and when I took him a couple weeks ago to see another movie he insisted we see it again, on the basis that I hadn't seen it yet and "Mom, it's really funny!" It was a pretty good movie to take a kid and I thought it was well put together.

Seeing as the movie takes place at the Museum of Natural History in NYC, and hubby and I went there B.C. (before children) and loved it, we decided to take a trip down for the weekend and bring the offspring. We're leaving tonight and will chill out until Sunday afternoon.

We booked a suite smack dab in the middle of Time Square, overlooking it. This is our kids first time in the Big Apple and we thought to go all out. I cant wait to show my son the huge 3d ads from our hotel window. The quick trip should be something he will remember for a long time.

We leave tonight, will hit the museum tomorrow, where my son insists on looking for the batteries that makes everything come alive at night and head for one of our favorite touristy restaurants after, Jekyll and Hyde.

Should be fun and break up the monotony that is winter. Wheeeee!

Do you have tickets yet? Buy them online if you can.

Biggest scheduling mistake I ever made was taking my kid to the Shedd Aquarium the weekend "Finding Nemo" was released on DVD. Nothing like a 90+ wait in the snow just to get into the front door, and another hour to reach the ticket counter.

I havent, but I also figured that the movie has been out for awhile now and the furor has most likely died down. But I will definitely look into that. Thanks for the idea.

When I lived in VA I would go there all the time. It's a great place, but VERY expensive. Nexa, you should go to the garment district and check out all the cool fabrics and yarns. Also, Chinatown is faaahbulous.

Have fun DSD!

I've never been to NYC myself, but will someday. Yesterday I made my first non-airport related trip to Portland, after spending the last three weeks in their entirety on the farm. I saw a black person! Truely a good omen at the head of Black History Month. I was also hit up for change numerous times by seedy panhandling street kids, and I need some help thinking of cool tricks I could make them perform before I cough up a nickel. Any thoughts?

You want street kids to turn tricks on you for nickels?

Sounds like a fun trip! I lived in NYC for a few years right after I got out of the navy. First year was in Queens and then the rest of the time I lived on East 88th St. between First Ave. and York Ave.

I worked just south of Greenwich Village on Houston Street (cross street was Hudson). Lot of great bars and restaurants (White Horse Tavern (partly owned by DeNiro)) and I had a few dinners at the smaller Jekyll and Hyde pub in Greenwich Village. Fun place for families.

Have fun!

obligatory update. The trip was fantastic, albeit cold. We found a way into NYC bypassing the $6 bridge tolls and easily made our way into Time Square. The hotel was grand, and our view 40 floors up was great. We had a front row seat to the M&M shop and a 20 foot bottle of Corona. Can't beat that ;).

The Museum of Natural history was everything we hoped it would be. Xavier was most adamant that we find the Easter Island head from the movie. I was worried he wouldn't be there, but fortunately he was. It seems that the Easter Island head was the hit of the movie as every minute more little kids would come running in to the Pacific Isle area screaming "He's here he's really really here!!!" My son included. We also saw Rexxie, the T Rex, from the movie and so his happiness was complete.
Lunch at Jekyl and Hydes was great. We went around 2 to miss the rush and ended up in a front row seat to everything. Xavier especially liked the Talking Tiki Masks. We ended up a block away from the largest Toys R Us in the world with a full size ferris wheel inside. The line was too long and we were meeting up with a high school friend for dinner though so we opted out. Howe4ver on the second floor there was also a full sized animated T Rex that I was able to get a video of. Pretty damn cool.

All in all we had a great time. Im already being asked if we can go back in the summer heh.

I've only been to NYC once. It was fun and I think I'll do it again some time. Took a first class seat on the Acela from New London to Grand Central, I believe. The free drinks were the best part of the ride, the breakfast was not terrible. I've decided that I'm in love with Chinatown.

Best chinese place EVAR

Glad you had a good time, DSD et al. Next time drop by for a drink on your way down, I know the bartenders and can probably get your little guy served.

we meant to, but there was a Hershey store on the next block that our son opted for instead. We would have done both but it was frigid out and walking blocks with an 8 week old already having been out all day was not something we wanted to do. Besides, we got enough candy to fell an elephant and ate a lot of it that night after dinner. The sugar high was fun. Jumping on the bed was allowed at swanky hotels ;)
