Didn't feel like necroposting so I was thinking maybe we can do a weekly thread based on the week's episode. Anyone catch last night's episode? Apparently, I missed the previous episode (I think the last one I caught was the boxing match episode) and I missed the marathon they had last week.

Interesting episode - I won't cite spoilers, but I'm curious as to who the final 5 of the Cylons are. I'm thinking Gaius Baltar will be one of them.

Ok, one small spoiler for discussion:

Looks like Lucy Lawless will be taking a break from the show, if not indefinitely, which I doubt.

Meh. They hinted one of them may be Starbuck. Baltar should be a guilty human.

I've been trying so hard wracking my brain as to who she wronged in the past but I just cannot remember. I didn't even catch that hint about Starbuck, I just thought that it meant she saw it somewhere when she was a kid.

Can someone explain to me why she was able to see the five in the temple? I thought this temple was built by humans of the 13th colony on their way to Earth.

Dang maybe I shouldn't watch BSG at 1 in the morning anymore!! Glad I read that comment, it all seems to make total sense now.

D'Anna would definitely say "Please forgive me, I had no idea." because of all the things they did to Starbuck. (capturing her at the farm, keeping her hostage on New Caprica) What is Starbuck's history? All I can recall is that she was physically abused as a child by her mother and so that's why she has no family ties.

I agree now that I think more on it.

Didn't Lucy Lawless initiate stealing Starbuck's eggs way back when? That, and the painting/drawing of the Eye of Jupiter makes a lot of sense. Secondarily, maybe the fact that she's the best pilot (awesome eye/hand coordination, etc.) and pretty much fought Apollo to a stand-still in the boxing match might play into the fact that she could be one of the Chosen.

If she is one I would be pretty happy with that. She's as deep in as anyone else.

You know, you would think that a race as intelligent as the Cylons that can eventually create models that are flawlessly human in appearance would have come up with some way for them to be able to tell.

I'm now waiting for Baltar to bang Sharon. He's done Six, D'Anna, and Starbuck. She's all that's left! (that we know of)

I have yet to see last night's episode. It's sitting quitly on TiVo waiting for me. I know this though: if Starbuck is a Cylon the writers need to be kicked in the balls for crap writing. They have allready done the "character everyone (everyone being the other characters) loves turning out to be a bad guy" bit with Sharron. Doing it again is just lazy. And speaking of lazy: Balter can't be a Cylon either. Let him be human like yossarian says. One of the things I loved about the original series was how utterly evil Baltar was. Turn him into a Cylon and you lose the humanity and the evil and just make him a machine doing his job, albeit unknowingly.

I'd be shocked if they make Baltar a Cylon. They've already tried to trick us into thinking he definitely was one when Caprica Six wakes up and Baltar is there on the base ship. I got totally owned during that episode.

I don't even really understand the whole godliness thing for the final five. Have they talked about it and I just missed it??

Question:

When did they move it from Friday nights to Sundays?

They moved it last night and the reason is because ratings have been very poor lately. They're hoping to revive things by moving it to a better night. Good move imo. I'll /wrist if they cancel this like Farscape.

Very general spoiler-ish speculation below...

If you're talking about the promo in which they say "one will die" the candidates Dualla, Apollo and Starbuck. The next part, where it says "One will realize they're a cylon" showed Gaeta, Baltar and Adama.

The Ron Moore and David Eick have been hinting like crazy that it's Starbuck who is going to end up dead, which leads me to believe it's NOT going to be Starbuck, because the general rule of thumb where TV producer chain-yanking is concerned is believe the exact opposite of whatever they say. I won't be at all sad to see Dee shuffle off the mortal coil.

As for the Cylon, of the two possible humans whom D'Anna has "wronged" Gaeta is the one with whom she had the most contact, back when he was Baltar's chief of staff--she's barely had anything to do with Adama. One could say she "wronged" Baltar by torturing him, but since that ended with her banging him, I think that's pretty much water under the bridge.

No, Starbuck was sent to The Farm early in Season 2, before we ever met D'Anna masquerading as a reporter on Galactica (which I believe was in Season 2.5.) The only Cylons we saw at "The Farm" were Six and the African-American one posing as the doctor.

I have to admit, I'd be really disappointed if it turned out to be Gaeda. But then, I totally forgot about that promo. I hope Dee eats it. I've never liked her. Even though I feel sorry for her.

If she dies, I'm guessing she dies next week, since it's about Lee and Kara.

The whole "oh no, the final 5 are divine" thing is a load of crap in my oppinion. it's a cop out. The cylon god is going to turn otu to be some malfunctioning windows 95 box sitting undiscovered in the back room of the galactica.

I'm still mad they blew up the pegasus.

Last night when Starbuck was trying to give herself morphine my husband goes, "She looks different." I was like, "Maybe we should burn some gloves onto your hands and see if your face looks the same."

The theory I'm working with (and have for a while now) is that the Cylons didn't "evolve" into human forms. Humans and cylons are actually from the same stock and always have been. The Lords of Kobol may have introduced some kind of genetic programing into the human population in order to cause specific things to occur in the future (why is totally unknown of course). Maybe they were trying to create the next evolution of man or something. But this programming would occasionally cause certain "templates" to appear in the population (the twelve, which I'm sure is *not* coincidentally the same number of colonies). Those people would then (perhaps unknowingly) take actions that would lead to some desired result.

This could include the creation of the cylon race in the first place. It could include the introduction of human form cylons in that race. Did the cylons actually create them, or did they find them and incorporate them into the whole downloading/cloning thing? The fact that they know there are 12 models (and only 12 for some reason), but they themselves don't know who the remaining 5 are is a strong indication that they were found rather then created.

There's just too many things that go waaaaay back in human history and that tie directly into the human form cylons for this (or something similar) not to be the case. Why create 12 colonies and there be 12 models of cylon? Why create a "temple of the five" 4,000 years ago, which apparently was designed to allow a human form cylon (template human?) to see the five hidden forms? Humans clearly did this, so the answer has to lie with the idea that what we think of as "humans" and "cylons" aren't as distinct and separate as we believed initially.

This would also perhaps indicate that there was a 13th template created (a 13th "lord of Kobol"), who chose to go off and found earth instead of sticking around with the other 12. He might be "the one" that the cylons are seeking (perhaps again without knowing why). Notice that the Humans talk about "gods" (which are presumably references to the 12 lords who founded the 12 colonies). Cylons talk about "god" (the one who founded earth perhaps?). Everything that's going on in the series, both by humans and cylons may simply be some programmed desire/need to find this 13th template/colony. Even though the cylons may think of themselves as machines and enemies of man, they're apparently just as subjected to this programming as the humans are. They might be a bit more aware of it is all. They don't follow the "gods", because they know that they are copies of the 12 (7 of them anyway). They can't exactly worship themselves, so they deify the final one instead (although "the five" are pretty high up there to them as well).

It could even be that the entire conflict between the humans and cylons was created because without that kind of strife, they'd never leave the area of space they were in and seek earth. If, as I surmise, that's the programming they are both following, then this makes a lot of sense.

Dunno. Just a theory I've been hashing about for awhile and slowly refining. Whatever the "truth" is, it's pretty darn interesting so far...

I hope they get to it soon because I have a feeling that once they reveal that, they'll be able to tell us who the hell the Six in Baltar's head is and how she can know so much. It's driven me out of my mind for three years now, please put me out of my misery Sci-Fi. And no, I don't want more ****** torture thx.

I was totally confused by that, too, unless the 13th colony made these cylons.

Ambrya, I've not seen that promo. TiVo catches the new episodes of BSG and Stargate Atlantis and that's about it for me.

Neph, no, no on the geek-iness scale we're really not very high. First, I'd point out we're discussing a television program not violations of the fluctuation-dissipation theorm or the innerworkings of the linux kernel. Second, we actually have represenatives of the fairer sex with us. I'd say we're pretty mainstream for the 21st century.
