I have a shameful new addiction: St. Elsewhere. Season 1 came out on DVD and, since I hadn't been in the country when it hit big, I sat in while Joph watched an episode and got hooked. Between being touched by the guest appearances (the actual cast acted like they were stuffed with straw), amused by the 80s kitsch, recognizing some superstars at their outset (rawr Denzel) and constantly horrified by the growing perms, I ploughed through most of Season 1 and now plan to get the subsequent seasons when they come out.

I missed out on a lot of popular culture between 82-87, since I was living in Peru and Abqaiq. Any other 80s favorites that came out during that time I should check out?

I don't know about Buck Rogers. I wasn't into Sci-Fi much.

Not that I'm running out to rent it, but I find it bizarre that I'm living with a girl who is about my age, but who has never seen an episode of Taxi.

You missed out of Rev. Jim Ignatowski and Latka Gravas. Taxi was one of the best shows in the late 70's-early 80s.

Taxi (1978-1983) was (I think) made by the same people who created Cheers (1982-1993).

Here are some other shows I enjoyed in the 80s - some you may have seen before:

Barney Miller(1975-1982). Don't know if you are a fan of the show, "Firefly" and its movie, "Serenity", but this is where Ron Glass (Preacher on Firefly) started out.

Greatest American Hero - (1981-1983) Goofy show with a top 40 theme song at the time. Silly cheezy show like the Misfits of Science. Connie Selleca was in it. Smiley: inlove

Fridays (1980-1982)- a competitor to Saturday Night Live - Michael "Kramer" Richards was in the cast in his pre-Seinfeld/pre-racist days. He and Mark Blankfield were the funniest guys on the show. Also of note, Larry David was in the cast as well (Seinfeld co-creator and creator of "Curb Your Enthusiasm".

Kids in the Hall (1988-1994) - one of the best sketch comedy shows ever. You probably saw this one after you returned - if not, check them out, awesome show.

Miami Vice 1984-1989 - Epitome of 80s cool (for what it's worth) fashion, music, and cop drama.

Quincy, M.E. Before CSI, there was Quincy, M.E.! (1976-1983)

SCTV (1976-1981)- Another awesome sketch comedy show (better than Saturday Night Live at the time).

The Tracey Ullman Show (1987-1990) - Great sketch comedy show and was where The Simpsons shorts were first aired between sketches. (You might have seen this one since you came back in '87).

WKRP in Cincinnati (1978 - 1982) funny show and of course, a very hot Loni Anderson Smiley: inlove

Fixed.

Unfortunately, WKRP isn't on DVD yet, still hung up on licensing rights to the music. Supposedly, they're going to release the first season with different tunes but I'm not sure how well it'll hold up with the songs changed.

You are correct sir! I lusted after Jan Smithers even more than Loni, but I just went with the more known name. She had that hot intellectual thing going for her. Again, good call. Smiley: clap

Even if it was on DVD, I think I'd rather beat myself dead with an elephant ***** before watching three straight years of "Press Your Luck".

Not in the same era, but I suddenly remembered that I have the first season of "Northern Exposure" in my Netflix queue.

I'd pay to see you beat yourself dead with an elephant *****. In other news, there was a famous scandal on that show. It's known as the "Big Bucks: The Press Your Luck Scandal."

lawl, now I have the MacGuyver theme song stuck in my head. Dun-dun-dun-dun-dun duh duh-dan-dah.

As much as I used to love the show when I was a kid, I wouldn't watch A-Team. I tried watching some on tv and I just couldn't get into it or see why I liked it.

Can't foget Moonlighting (for just the off screen Cybil Shepherd + Bruce Willis drama) and David Hasselhoff in Knight Rider. :P

I remember the first season of Moonlighting, pre-Willis/Shepard romance (on screen), being good. As I recall, the show went to hell once they decided to hook the two of them up.

William Daniels (Dr. Mark Craig from St. Elsewhere) was the voice of KITT in Knight Rider. We come around full circle!

Have you seen some of David Hasselhoff's music videos? Don't watch while drinking liquids or while co-workers are nearby.

I loved Cheers. I watched Will and Grace because of those writers, plus I think some of them are on Scrubs. I always found the comic that played Latka annoying, but those writers deliver. Good call.

Never heard of it, but I hated Micheal Richards even in Sienfeld. I always hated that show.

Saw them all in Spanish. Had a wicked crush on the guy that played Hannibal and Tom Selleck.

I did miss the last episode of MASH that I'd like to see, but most of those are meh.

Loved the A-Team and Moonlighting. My favorite episode ever was when the did Taming of the Shrew.

Or maybe you're right. It's been awhile, which is why it's on Netflix.
