Well, tonight Sci-fi channel decided to air a serialized version of the Dresden files. I liked the book series itself, but knowing how sci fi cna completely **** up the simplest translations to screen, I was expecting the worst. I was actually plesently suprised. It wasn't the best they could have done, but it didn't outright suck either.

It seems to pick up sometime after the start of the book series, but before about book 4. The episode they showed was not a regurgitation of the books, but new content. I don't think the way they intoroduced it is going to go over really well with people who have not already read some of the books though. It seemed to me that the character introductions were really rushed, and it looks like they plan to introduce most of the background you get in book 1 spread out over the series.

The one thing I think they got very wrong so far was "Bob" the air spirit. The rest of the characters they have shown so far seemed to be at least a fairly close match.

So, did anyone else see it? what did you think? I'll probably give it at least a few more episodes to see if it works.

I watched it - read a review about it earlier last week, saying pretty much what you said. I think all new shows with potential need a time to develop and hit their stride. I thought it was ok, so I'll give it a wait and see at this point.

I think the first episode should have been a 2-hour premiere so it wouldn't have had to rush and cram everything in only an hour.

Are the books called Dresden Files as well? Not sure of it's relevance other than a feeble attempt at trying to lure "X-Files" fans.

I'm going to have to check out these books, never heard of them prior to the review I read about this show. I did like Bob the ghost - seemed pretty solid actor and character - I'll have to check out the books to see the differences.

The series is called the Dresden files, but none of the books are. I actually think the first book predates the x-files, but i'm not 100% sure about that.

Edit: book 1 is linked in teh first post.

I did catch a tad bit on the tube but really didn't get into it. Are the books quite good? I am always looking for excellent reading materials.

I liked it, but yeah, the character introductions were far too brief. hopefully in a few episodes, they'll have a more solid foundation.

I watched it and haven't read the books, as of yet.

I liked it. The character development was just enough, imo, to get my interest, but not so much that it overshadowed the storyline. i think that was the main reason I enjoyed it, really. They jumped right into a solid story and started building the characters from there. Or rather, let us get to know them.

Dresden himself seems like an interesting character. Flawed and with a relevant history. It reminded me, in a way, of what Supernatural. It started out with such potential...but became angsty and annoying instead. :D Let's hope the same thing doesn't happen to Dresden, as it's meant for a more adult crowd.
