I don't think that pot deserves the same attention as national security or immigration...nevermind the Constitution.

Though I think Richardson already declined running for '08...I think I heard that somewhere.

His Wikipedia article says that he's running. I don't know jack about him to say if it's right or wrong.
Some guy with an opinion who found his way to Wikipedia wrote:
In 2006, the Associated Press (AP) reported that Richardson informed party leaders that he intended to run in the 2008 U.S. presidential election.[14] In early December 2006 Fox News claimed that Bill Richardson told them he would run for President,[15] but Richardson said he would actually decide in January 2007.[16]

On Sunday, January 21, 2007 Richardson announced that he has formed a presidential exploratory committee.[17] Richardson joins a diverse field for the Democratic nomination which already includes Senators Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. While Senator Obama would be the first African American and Senator Clinton would be the first woman, Richardson's own background would make him the first Hispanic to earn a major Presidential nomination.

Another candidate!

"America's mayor,'' hoping to quash speculation that he was having second thoughts about becoming America's president, has filed a statement of his candidacy for the 2008 Republican nomination with the Federal Elections Commission.

The ironic thing is that Giuliani probably has a better chance with socially liberal Democrats if the Dems run Hillary than Giuliani has to even win the Republican primaries.

I'd be suprised to see him make it past the primaries. The people who vote in primaries are the actual "hard core" people of their respective party. Not many independents run out to decide who the Democratic candidate should be.

With that thought in mind, I have a hard time believing that a pro-gay-union, pro-choice adulterer is going to win the conservative Republican hearts and minds. Maybe I'm wrong -- I'd love to be wrong because I like him more than McCain or the conservative stable -- but I doubt it. I think some 3rd choice besides McCain or Giuliani will ultimately nab it.

I was wrong about Richardson...

As to Rudi...the "die hard" (read: idiots) 'Pubbies will vote for him because Hannity says so.

A black man could win in '08, were the right one running (Powell). It'd be a landslide. Real Republicans would vote for him in a heart beat, and conservatives would line up behind him as long as he pledged to stick to the Constitution (which he has said he would, sometime back in 02, when he was asked about a possible run after W.). The only wrench in the works would be that he was the "poster boy" for the Iraq war. I can't imagine him being thrown under the bus for that one if Hillary gets the nod though.

Beats me. But, at this point in the last election, we were talking about Lieberman and Clark and Dean. No one even knew WTF Kerry & Edwards were.
