I wonder how many black people / politicians actually care about the NAACP report card.
I imagine it's not good PR to get a bad grade on it. They do probably try to avoid it.

Let me amend my statement then to "I wonder how many black politicians would care about if not for the peer pressure factor"

I imagine there's quite a bit they wouldn't give a damn about, were someone not there to call them on it. Smiley: lol Still, I get what you're saying. For Congress in particular, there's the Congressional Black Caucus, specifically created by elected black members in the late 60s to address civil rights and black issues. Their mission statement says they will "promote the public welfare through legislation designed to meet the needs of millions of neglected citizens." They are commonly the go-to folks to see if your legislation will be backed by the community they represent, and it's a pretty good gauge.

I guess I'm edging too close to the question of "how much of what politicians say they care about do they actually care about"... the question of the ages.

Hate to be jaded, but ultimately, and especially once they've been in office for a while, it's more about what's likely to get them (re)elected.

I just wish for some magical Rhetoric-o-meter that you could point at a politician to see how much of what (s)he says is total ******** =P

Even if you could get a percentage, it wouldn't tell you WHICH percentage.

Considering how things currently seem to be going, if you did that it would justify throwing seeds randomly around congress at letting them grow on the spot. With that much manure being vomited out of the majority of them, we could end world hunger within weeks.

I admit that I am responsible for consuming much of Mr. Totem's time. He has been at my beck & call...would make a good nurse. Thank you for your well wishes! Mrs. Totem

(Yes, this was really my wife who wrote that. -T)
