With Barack Obama's entrance into the Democratic primaries, you owe us at least a year's worth of "ebony hued brother" and "as a man of color" jokes. Maybe something about Escalades. Please get on this as time is wasting.

Varrus, I'll be expecting you to quote the Drudge Report at least three times a week, saying that Barack is an Islamofacist and noting that "Obama" sounds a lot like "Osama".

Chop, chop now, both of you.

Have you noticed that between Hilary and Obama, this year's Dem Primaries is setting itself up to be better than Gray's Anatomy? Hell, I might even register to vote in the primaries.

No chance in the election. Even if he is a smooth undercover brother.

He needs a more solid black name. Like Jackson. No wait scratch that, Shaft.

He's a terrorist for sure.

Gray's Anatomy is the 'bible' of anatomy. Started in the 1800's by Henry Gray. It is still updated and new editions are still being released to this day. I believe it's on the 39th edition.

Grey's Anatomy is the television show. The name is based on the book.

I guess the big question here is this: Is the general American public ready for a black or female president? Policy, platforms, and political experience aside, will the voting population vote for them?

Also, to muck up the waters even more, which will be a bigger influence; the votes that they get just because they are black/female, or the votes that they don't get just because they are black/female?

What we need is a half-black, half-hispanic, gay, jewish female. Get it all over with at once.

I think that if and when he comes close to getting anywhere that some people are going to try to assasinate him. seriously.

Oh yeah. I totally think he's be the 3rd after Lincoln and Kennedy whatwith all the racist, blind, white, conservative capitalists out there in this country.

That being said, I think he'd be the best person... besides McCain and/or Biden.

I think that Obama might fare okay on the race issue because he's "Colin Powell" black rather than "Jessie Jackson" black. He's not out there discussing how the white man owes the people in the ghetto or saying that he's going to fight for his fourty acres & a mule. He doesn't look like Idi Amin or anything. He's articulate, well-educated, charismatic, decent looking and has a good "pulled up by his bootstraps" story. Issues, experience, etc aside, I think he has a good chance with those who aren't just 100% opposed to any blacks in the Whitehouse.

Hillary, I think, is the wrong barometer for women. Her politics are widely viewed as polarizing, she's been getting cast as a shrill harpy-woman since 1992 and, even among women, a lot of women felt "betrayed" by Hillary's decision to stay with Bill. I think a lot more blacks would vote for Obama based purely on race than women would vote for Hillary based on gender.

Mmmm, maybe. I think women are turned off by her for other reasons, personally. If anything I think most women sympathized with her over Bill's infidelity but felt that she stayed with him for the wrong reason (political ambition as opposed to the sanctity of marriage, etc.).

She piSsed me off royally by apologizing to Tammy Wynette, but that's just me.

Well, you should listen to your mother, by all means.

Here's the thing: the Clintons stayed together because of power. His career, her career, her potential run for the Presidency. It was all very pragmatic and civilized and European, on the surface at least.

Middle America is not ready for pragmatic, civilized, European attitudes about marital infidelity and ambition. At least not out in the open like that. On the one hand, marriage is a sacred covenant, indestructible (ideally). On the other hand, if he cheats on you, you're duty bound to throw the bum out.

It's just one of those little inconsistencies that makes us so uniquely American.

I'm happy to see Obama running because I very honestly believe that, should Hillary win the primaries, she will lose the general election. And that, absent another strong contender, Hillary will almost certainly win in the primaries.

But, we're over a year away from that yet and nearly two years away from the general election so I'm just shooting from the hip.

I agree with that assessment. Hillary can't win the election, so she has to lose the primaries.

I know this is why Colin Powell never seriously considered running, and Obama's stated that it's a concern for him, as well. I suppose someone has to take the first step, though, and he's got such support.

I'd be torn. I want to see a minority in the Presidency, but I don't know if he has quite the experience yet, and I'd love to see Bill back in the White House, even as First Gentleman or whatever.

He's unelecatable right now the same way Hillary was in '04. He's trying to get the voters used to the dirt that's going to come out by declaring early, but in all likelyhood he's too left-wing socialist to be elected, no matter how hard Teddy Kennedy might clap when Osama gives primary speeches. I've met the guy a few times at MLK speeches. Plus, he's a dirty smoker. Better hope it's not those Gallouises. You haven't see him puffing away because the mainstream and tabloid press are too friendly. In the end, he's a great orator of empty platitudes lacking substance. Other than that, he's the next JFK.
