I don't claim to have been the most brilliant of high school students, but it would seem to me that the average male would catch on to the fact that he was getting hit in the nuts every time his coach asked "What is the capital of Thailand?" and would perhaps turn away from the attempted blow instead of taking it square in his junk.
As to their fear of getting kicked off the team, I surmise that the majority of the male population would rather get kicked off a high school basketball team than get kicked in the nuts repeatedly, but that's just me.
