TOKYO -- Momofuku Ando, the Japanese inventor of instant noodles -- a dish that has sustained American college students for decades -- has died. He was 96.
[...]
Born in Taiwan, Ando founded his company in 1948 from a humble family operation. Faced with food shortages in post-World War II Japan, Ando thought a quality, convenient noodle product would help feed the masses.

In 1958, his "Chicken Ramen" -- the first instant noodle -- was introduced after many trials. Following its success, the company added other products, such as the "Cup Noodle" in 1971.
Time to eat a bowl of Ramen in rememberance.

Speaking of which, do you eat your noodles with the broth or do you drain the water and eat them "dry"?

Not I, but I've known... people... people who, for reasons abhorrent to God in Heaven, drain the broth and just eat a bowl o' noodles.

Back when I used to eat them I would cook the crap out of the noodles until they broek down quite a bit and absorbed most of the water.

I always chuckled at the "WARNING: DO NOT OVERCOOK" admonishment on the package, as if it would be a travesty to fine cuisine to ruin your 15¢ noodles.

I think if you overcook them after midnight and shine a bright light on them they turn evil or something...

I always cook them, drain the water so that it is just enough to keep the noodle wet.

They smell like swamp water. They may taste like manna from heaven, but I'll never get past the smell to find that out.

Kimchi Bowl Noodle. Shredded raw garlic. Chopped ham onions and green peppers. Plenty of Soy. SriRacha hot chili sauce.

God bless you Momofuku Ando. May you find flavor packet of Japanese schoolgirls to flavor your heavenly soup.

I drain out most of the liquid, leave about a tablespoon, then I add the seasoning packet. Tis yummy :)

No crunching up.
Put as LITTLE water as you can in the pot.
ONce that water starts boiling...(you have to quick it will evaporate fast) throw a WHOLE Raman "biscuit" in there..... immediatly put the Flavor stuff on it.....

At this point the "Biscuit" should be only half submerged in the boilng water...

ONce the sub-merged part is soggy...... You can unravvle the noodle in Half.

Flip them over...(at this point the Flavor shoul start to permeate)
(caful not to burn the noodles onto the pot)
By the time the water is Almost totally gone.. they should be good. make that @#%^ing great.

You should be able to eat them off a plate.. and ALL Flavor goes into the nooodles..

20 WHOLE MINUTES!? That's obscene!

Food shouldn't take longer to make than it takes to eat!

Even the ones that say stove top only, that's what I get and microwave them. If it takes more than 3 minutes for something like that, I would cook something more substantial.

I used to take noodles to the field with me.I'd crush the package then open the package .Sprinkle the flavor packet on the uncooked noodles and eat it like chips.

I know how to cook and I still love those noodles. I prefer mine to be more of a soup with noodles in it. About 2 cups of water is the most I can use without diluting the taste too much though. The wife is one of those people who eats only the noodles and leaves the broth.
