People use that "this is the asylum" excuse to raise hell over anything that doesn't fit their view of how the forum should run. No holds barred doesn't mean "no user holds barred but admins are barred from doing anything that might upset my delicate constitution". I would offer your own statment back to you. If you don't like the way the forum is run, there are plenty of others.

Why are any insults off limits? Well, I'll answer your question with a question: why don't we allow posting of explicit hardcore images in here? Or Neonazi hate speach propaganda? The main reason is that most of the people in this forum would find those things either offensive, or inapropriate to the point they would no longer view the forum. There is a balance in here. Too much moderation drives people away. Too little drives people away. Just the right amount drives the people that don't agree with your assessment away.
It really is a losing proposition alot of the time. There is also the legal issues with some things. There are lines, One of them for me is insinuating that someone is a pedersist.

What is my job. Some days I wonder that myself. There is a definite mix. I monitor all the forums on the site. I answer user questions and complaints. I investigate karma whining and sockpuppet/ratebot accusations. When a request for a thread lock comes in, I investigate, make a decision on whether the content is appropriate for that forum, then take action if necessary. I Kill gil / gold / plat ad spammers. I kill "win a free piece of electronic crap advertisment" spammers. I keep the stupider posts from the OOT from being posted in here. In short, anything related to the forums. Every single post in the forum that gets brought to my attention, I make a jugement call on. I won't claim to be mistake free, but I think i've made more good calls than bad.

I've been in here longer than pretty much all of you except Allakhazam. I'll probably be here when you close your browser on this site for the last time. So you're pretty much stuck with me. Sorry.

In the last three months here in the asylum not counting Usagichan's posts, there are roughly 200 locked or nuked threads. 195 of those are gold spammers, stupid ooT posts by sockpuppets or low count OOT noobs wanting to break into asylum posting, or other various spamming incidents. 2 more of those were admin test threads. The other three were locked or nuked for crossing the line. One was extremely racist in general. The other two were targetted specifically at me in attacks along the same lines that prompted this whole situation. I've also edited a few dozen idiot posts where people thought that a 15 inch long post consisting entirely of line breaks and the word ***** was a good idea. Compared to the rest of the site, and most other gaming related forums out there that is very lax. I occasionally get comments about it from other forum admins out there that wonder why we don't clamp down in here more.

The problem I had with Bhodi's post was not the offensiveness of the content, but that it was derivative of squeeter - a lame, annoying spam troll with a minor talent for button pushing.

If you can't be original in your insults, why fUcking bother?

i have to agree with the addmin.

i have a federal job, and as such, there are certain things, that not only would get you fired, but if allowed could result in a huge lawsuit.

some of those things, but not limited to them, are anything promoting sexually explicit content with minors. before you get your hackels up, that does not just mean pictures and video. it is not only unlawfull to show it, it is also unlawfull to promote it, ie, allow it to be expressed in a public forum. ie, this web site.

mabe bhodi crossed the line, mabe he didnt, but how far to any of you feel they should let it go before uncle sam decided it had gone to far? wouldnt it be better to nip it in the bud before it gets out of hand?

here you have a forum viewed mostly by minors, which makes it especially sensitive to begine with. how much leeway do you think uncle sam would give the adult owners of a public forum if they openly allowed content like this to be posted? how far do you think uncle sam would consider to be over that immaginary line?

racism is another no no. anything pertaining to assinating or killing would be another. especially in light of the colombine inncident where they boasted about doing it on a forum just like this one.

the line must be drawn. and since it is the adult owners **** on the line for the comments made by mostly minors, it is only fair, and even expected, that they are the ones that draw the line.

free speach has its limits.

Isn't he the air traffic controller?
-------------------------------------

yep, and BTW, they are hiring. pay is frozen right now but that will change with the next addmin. currently working 6 day weeks with a but load of overtime because the current "mr brown" of air traffic controll is, well, lacking in common sence or ignoring it to push an agenda.

and being everything is broken down into 3 and 5 letter designators, you quickly learn getting the point across is more important than correct punctuation. infact, getting the point across is a matter of life and death. need a strong math background though. rememer those annoying math problems where the train leaves the station at this time and that speed, and how long will it take to reach that point? yep, all day long.

but something you will aso learn in this job, or any government job, is exactly how serious uncle sam takes things about sex with minors, racism, or the threat of violence. a one way express ticket to a pink slip and a court date.

and if you dont think, especially in light of 9-11 and the colombine inncident, that uncle sam is not paying attention to public forums, like this one, your a fool.

you mention any number of key words and a computer kicks it out for special attention. and you dont want "special" attention.

the addmin did the right thing. it is better to squash it quickly than to let it flirt with the immaginary line thet will earn them "special" attention. you guys are not going to pay their legal bills. you guys are not going to pay their fines. you guys are not going to pay for the equipment that gets confiscated.

the addmins have a responsibility now they didnt have before because of inncidents beyond their controll. as such, we should recognize that and do our part not to press them. they dont have to run this site. they certainly dont make a large income for it, atleast not large enough to cover the results of something bad happening. if they are willing to take that risk and provide us with a forum, we should respect that committment and not place them in jepordy by running off at the mouth like its our right reguardless of who it affects.

maturity. deal with it.

They'd find me with my brains spattered over my radar scopes, shotgun lying on the floor, my trigger finger broken if I had to go work as an ATC. There are few jobs I consider to be horrible, but that'd be one of them. God bless ya, shadowrelm, we need you oout there, but I, for one, couldn't handle your career.

And just for the record, I heard that Moeb dresses his little boy in BSA suits after administering full body baby powderings. Just sayin'.

Pains me to say it, but i'm with Shadow on this one.

Being able to recognise social boundries that are not to be crossed, especially when those boundries have been clearly marked is a sign of civillised and mature behavior.

Not that anyone accused Bhodi of either of those two.

Example of how bad PC has got in public service, two of these three will get you court marshalled in the Royal Navy.

1. two guys having an arguement in a bar one tells a guy "**** off you ginger Cnut".

2. two guys having an arguement in a bar one tells a guy "**** off you black Cnut".

3. two guys having an arguement in a bar one tells a guy "**** off you gay Cnut".
