Not to mention, that if you're referring to gene splicing, it also imitates natural selection because the "corrected" person no longer has the unfavorable genetic traits to pass on.

There are basically two types of gene therapy. Germline gene therapy introduces genes into reproductive cells (sperm and eggs) or someday possibly into embryos in hopes of correcting genetic abnormalities that could be passed on to future generations.

Edit: well now you apologize while I was posting this and make me look like an ***...

Don't get this as a sexist and biased statement but the males tend to be more agressive than females. That is a proven fact for almost all species. So closed populations which favor male offsprings over female ones is more open to an increase in crime etc if this procedure becomes cheap and common.

I'm not sure what you mean by "closed" populations. Prisons? Islands?

Do real world models support your theory? Has crime spiked in China since abortion and infanticide have been allowing people to have mainly male children there?

No I don't think you look like an ***.

And no it doesn't imitate natural selection. Well in the end, yes. The defected gene is fixed but it doesn't mean that he/she never had it. Since also natural selection works like some population limiter in times of scarce sources this method only adds more competition.

As for getting rid of defected genes in gene pool, yes. I do agree with you. But naturally he/she was meant to pass away.

Isolated if you want to know. Populations that does not interact with other subspecies. And yes Iran is a closed population for example.

I never said crime can SPIKE. I said it may/can increase. And I don't know if crime increased in China, I'd like to know more if you do. But that law was a recent law. You can't see the consequences of that law yet anyway.

Law? I'm talking about technology readily available for the past 20-30 years, which has ALREADY skewed the population of China (and to some degree India) to a largely male young adult base.

I don't have stats on crime in China. But if your assertion can be tested, China sseems like a good place to start: a very homogeneous population with strict standards of individual behavior, whose population is now skewed toward what you posit to be an inherently aggressive male base. If crime is up there, then you may be on to something.

If crime is up in Iran there are many, many factors that would need to be accounted for somehow.

China might be good to check upon. And no I didn't say, Iran has high crime. I gave it as an example for closed population. I don't have info about crime in Iran but I doubt it's high since lt's legal system is based on religion with harsh punishment for any behaviour that's not appropriate for their understanding of religion.

Edit: Just checked and found this "China reported 923,000 criminal cases in the first quarter, an increase of 14.2 percent over the same period last year." As of this year. Though it doesn't prove anything. And of course blaming it on the gender ratio of the population only would not be logical.

That would be imitating natural selection, not supressing it.

Supressing natural selection would be saving ill people, this seeks to eliminate them.

Just to note you can't really "help" natural selection along. Natural selection is less about strong traits overcoming weak traits and more about stable traits replacing unstable ones.

For example having recessive sickle cell genes make one less susceptible to malaria, but of course increases the likelyhood of producing offspring with the sickle cell condition. Many male birds have brightly colored feathers to help attract mates, but these also increases their visibility to predators.

I won't comment on the issue of genetic screening, but it is is not in line with natural selection.
