Because for some really really bizaare reason, the Menorah and the Christmas tree are considered equivalently religious symbols in some states, and "non-religious" symbols of a holiday in others.

I commented on the same inconsistency in the thread about the NY airport removing the trees story about a week or so ago.

I'm thinking maybe the Jewish folks just got better lobbyists?
