Some people love ferrets. I used to date a guy that had one and that stupid thing only came out of the wall long enough to draw blood from my toes. I think it finally took me seriously when I kicked it across the room. Bastage.

Ferrets are among the suckiest of the common pets. My friend has had several and they reek (the ferrets, not my friend) and are obnoxious as hell. I say the ferrets should eat more children so we can be justified in throwing them into a sack and tossing it in the river (agains, the ferrets, not the children).

If the service is average, I go 15%. If it's better than average or if the waitress is particularly cute and flirts with me, I go 20%. On rare occasion I go 25% for large parties or if the waiter/waitress had to put up with a lot of crap and still performed well. But that's only happened a few times.

I would have kick the ferret hard enough to make sure it didn't survive hitting the wall.

Same as Flea; I tip 15% standard or 20% for exemplary service (which in my case means amusing me, which probably isn't fair, but there you go). If the gratuity is built into the bill I'm less likely to leave any extra.

I don't tip more during the holidays.

Yes, and how do you feel about ferrets?

20% if your service was great
15% if service was ok, or if the waiter was good but the restraunt service sucked
10% if the waiter's an *** or if it's mostly disappointing
0% and a nasty note if something was horribly wrong (only had to do this three times)
1 penny in the center of the table if it's the worst service ever (done this once)

Oh, and I don't tend to tip under a couple dollars for good service, IE if I'm at a table for 20 minutes and all I got was a milkshake, I'll still leave a two or three dollar tip even if the milkshake is only $4 because I wasted a table and service for so long.

I generally tip 10 - 15%. Hubby tips way too much, imho. He usually leaves 20% +.

Oh, and I hate ferrets. Sneaky, stinky critters.

I always tip a minimum of 15%, 20% if the service is good. I always tip delivery people, bartenders, casino dealers and the cage attendants, the girl who cuts my hair, whoever services me at any spa I go to for manicures, pedicures, etc. If service was really good, I've been known to take aside the people that directly waited on me and I'll tip an extra 10% after I've already left a tip on the table.

Oh, and I always tip the exotic dancers. I'll pay upfront for the dances themselves and for each dance, I'll usually tip around $10-15 per dance, broken up into singles of course. Smiley: grin

I dunno about that. When I lived in Lima, it was pretty well-known that the doorman would let anyone up unless you tipped him, and that extended all the way back into letting anyone have garage access. It paid to keep the doorman happy.

They are ******* nasty little beasts. My ex-flatmate (as of Tuesday, yay!) has one and the appartment always smelled like ferret stink.

15% if service is average, 20% or more if stellar. Nothing or very little if they didn't do a good job. I've done the waitress thing and I know they live off their tips. But at the same time, if you're slacking off on the job and Im not a happy customer, why should I pay for a job not done well?

Tipping isn't a common thing here in Britainland. Most folks don't tip, although it's expected in exclusive or 'posh' places. Then again, minimum wage here is about $10 so there's a different ethos.

That said, I usually tip 10% ish, and up to 20% if the service was outstanding or the waiter/ress really enhanced the evening.

In Europe, 10-15% is the norm.

In USA, like most folks, I tend to round up 15%,and more if they deserved it. I also factor in the waiter/resses perspective. E.g. the waitress at a cheap 'n' cheerful place (Chilis?) on Tuesday screwed up a few orders (wrong sides, cheese on salad when 'no cheese' was ordered etc.)

Normally my tip for service like that would've been 5-10%, but it was clear that:
a) She was new
b) She really was trying hard
c) the poor cow had bugger-all support from her co-workers and had probably had a crappy 10 minutes training.

So I tipped 15% and punched her in the throat.

Another tipping practice I hate. If I'm paying $100 for a trim, you best call it a day and be happy I booked it. I'd only tip the shampoo girl.

Hubby says the exact same thing. He'll ask "How the hell do you spend $175 on shampoo, a cut, blow-dry and style???." But then again, he thinks $10 at Supercuts is too expensive.

$3 tip on pizza deliveries, and $3 on dine in orders of $20 or less, $5 up to $40 - if I ever, myself, pay for a meal worth more I'll let ya know ><

I have no issue whatsoever leaving nada for worthless service. On the other hand, I left a $20 bill once for a few sodas when my sister went into Evil PMS Super ***** mode on a waiteress for no good reason.

As a server, I tip 15% minimum, and that's only if the service was lame. If it was good, 20%, and if the waitress was teh hawtness, 20% and my phone number.

Bar tips are an entirely different affair, but that's only because I'm usually drunk when I close out my tab, so the tips are generally higher.

I'll always tip $1 per drink at a club/bar (I always order directly from the bartender and never have a waitperson bring me the drink). If the bartender was especially good, I'll always tip an additional $5 to $10 when I leave for the night.

I've even been known to tip security if I needed help getting some obnoxious ******* to leave me the hell alone.
