In light of my recent birthday, Mr. Tare rounded up a couple babysitters and took me to the movies last night. We planned to see Borat, but it was ousted to provide extra showings of Rocky Balboa. Smiley: rolleyes

Anyway, we decided to see Apocalypto. Has anyone seen this? It about the the Maya civilization and their own cultural struggles and practices shortly preceding western occupation. I can only describe it as an extremely graphic and violent journey from order to chaos, idyllic to ravaged, joy to fear. I cried for about 40 minutes straight at the beginning. Once again I think that Mel Gibson has made a great movie but, just like TPOTC, I just wish he wouldn't take it to the absolute brink. Take it down a notch, Mel.

I would recommend that anyone see it but know this:

There's no shortage of blood and gore.
There are subtitles throughout, you big babies.
It's absolutely over-the-top-non-stop.

You need more then one babysitter?

I am looking forward to seeing Apocalypto, I have heard lots of good things about it and even if I don't understand WTF is going on there is lots of blood to hold my attention.

They're a COUPLE and they babysit, ok?

And yeah, blood, guts and gore will keep you glued to the screen in this instance, Sora.

I gave up on Mel's movies after Braveheart. Their good stuff but I can't take all the blood.

When his wife got her throat slashed by the captain guy, I thought I was going to puke. Not because of the actual act but because of the incredibly hopeless feeling that I had at that point. Just substitute your wife/spouse and place her in the position....

No Thanks. I don't like feeling incredibly hopeless to stop a situation. Kinda like watching the plane fly into the towers with all the people on board...

The best review of that movie that I saw was "Mel Gibson is a lunatic, but he's *our* lunatic"

I think it really was a good movie. I was ok with the gore but it could have been toned down a bit.
