I found a deal for a 7day Cozumel trip all inclusive for less than $400 a piece the other day. All you'd need to pay for is flight. It was to a beautiful resort. I've been trying to plan a scuba diving trip down there and I came acrossed it.
Actually, I've been to Cozumel, and I'll say this: I was only there for a day, but between napping in a hammock while a waiter served me margaritas beachside, then showering in the open air to go walk around the square and listen to live music while shopping for beautiful folk art, it was one of the best days of my life.

My location would be anywhere with decent golfing. Honeymoon-wise, though, we'd probably go somewhere like Antigua - my fiancee went there when she was younger and always wanted to go back. Or Egypt, since we're both avid fans of popular archaeology.

Well I'm a couple of years late, but I LOVE travel threads!

So here's my spam.

TheLovelySamira wrote:
I'd flip a coin for Budapest or Prague

Having been to both, and despite Anabel's opinion, I'd reccomend Prague. The only downside is the Hordes of drunken British stag parties that invade the town, get horribly pissed, and puke all over the Medieval Walls of the Old City.

But, apart from that it is probably the second most beautiful city in Europe. Budapest is lovely too, but not quite as striking, imo.

And here come a little fun fact, Budapest is actually two cities, Buda and Pest, separated by the river. Funny, huh?

TheGorgeousNexa wrote:
I've always thought it would be fun to hike Hadrian's Wall

The whole region surrounding Hadrian's wall is extremely beautiful. Scotland is absolutely magnificient, and North Umbria (Nobby will correct me if I'm wrong), is very nice too.

But the wall itself is a bit of a joke. It's not a "wall" as such, it's a couple of stacks of bricks in the countryside. if you didn't know about Hadrian, you would think some builder has done a crappy job at building a stone hedge.

So yeah, just to warn you not to expect the Great Wall of China, cos it sure as hell ain't like that! It's only a few bricks. But it's still very pretty.

Quote:
I'd do a tour of Venice, Florence, Rome (plus Vatican), maybe Tuscany and Siena and someplace along the coast like Positano

Remind of him of Poland's performance during WWII.

Cos Italy is gorgeous. Especially Tuscany, it is so beautiful. Not only that, but the food, the wine, the girls, the culture, the perfect settings, it's just picture perfect, especially for a couple.

Germany? Ha! Italy has so much more to offer in terms of vacation.

But for all the general yapping and whining, the obvious answer is that you should go to Paris. Not only is the most beautiful and romantic city in the world, it's also in the centre of the most beautiful country in the world.

Want beautiful snow-capped mountains? Want a gorgeous and tranquil blue sea? Want endless and deserted beaches that stretch to the horizon without any human in sight?

And if none of that rocks your boat, why not visit the beautiful medieval cities peppered all around the countryside, the beautiful Roman towns of Ales and Carcassone, the wilderness of the Massif Central, the grim and depressing greyness of the North of France (not the best part of the country, admitedly).

And then you have the lovely food, the beautiful girls, and the super people!

What's there not to like?

And on these wise words, that ought to be funded by the French Tourist Board, but unfortunately are not, I bid you all a fantastic Christmas holiday. I'm soon off to Puerto Rico for a few weeks, lying on the beach and drinking Pina Colada, while you losers are stuck in your grim and tedious jobs wandering how to best get the bastards from OOT back.

Big kisses and see y'all in 2007 for some more whining!

Edit: Personally, I would go to South America. Argentina or Brazil. Or maybe India. Either of those.

We've had this talk, you and I, but at least Poland fought with what it had. Italy was like that guy who says "Yeah, I'll play" when you need a third for your team but, five minutes in, says "Ok, I'm done" and goes to watch TV.

But enough global politics. Regardless of who did what when (or failed to do it), the point remains that I'm not jazzed up about the ole Boot. I'm willing to be convinced but I've already tried to convince myself and it ain't there.

I've been to Paris and, while nice, I don't get overseas enough to really want to double-up on destinations. As for South America, I'll be seeing enough all the wonders Peru has to offer soon enough. Hadrian's Wall is interesting from a historical perspective (I just completed my Early Western Civilization course) but Flea isn't interested in visiting that corner of the world. Anyway, we'll work it out. It's not as though we're just going to stay home. We both have Spain as a compromise choice if it comes to that.

Good luck with your own trip to the States (well, the territories thereof) and stay safe.

I've toyed with the idea of India on and off. I'd go back to Paris but Joph wouldn't. I brought up Spain because it's mildly interesting to me and I speak the language, but overall I think most Spaniards are ******** and it would be my last choice if Joph and I simply can't agree on a place, which is looking more and more like the case.

Oh well. My mother told me she always dreamt of Italy for her honeymoon but she never went and she has no plans to go, so b/c it's looking like the same for me, maybe I'll take her someday and romance be damned. Sometimes a girl's just gotta do for herself.

I always thought it'd be fun to go dogsledding in Finland in March and hit all the little northern places celebrating the return of the sun.

Think of it: near endless nights, Finnish saunas, a pile of furs, your own yurt. Sounds like the perfect honeymoon!

Oooh I totally forgot about that - that looks awesome too!

I have this strange feeling that after winter in Chicago though, Flea is going to draw the line at anyplace that's ever seen snow.

Yeah, sissy.

Don't do Tahiti - I just talked with someone who went there on their honeymoon and they said it was awful.

If you wants the warm - what about a Grecian island?

Also a friend of mine said Thailand is absolutely gorgeous, but you're not into Asian culture so... man you guys are picky. Why don't you just go to the Wisconson Dells and call it good?

I hear they're looking to expand their gene pool that time of year. You don't like beaches, how do you feel about pools?

Hehe, I was only kidding!! I personally think it's just soooo immature to bring up WWII over and over again. People should just get over it and forget aaaaaall about it, especialy the part where some countries got invaded.

I understand the doubling-up thing, I'm the same.

Spain is great too. And the people are really nice, friendly, full of life, very "Latin". The nightlife is great, and Barelona is one of the coolest cities in the world. It also has the greatest building anywhere, la Sagrada Famillia. All the Gaudi buildings, sprinkled around the city like candy toppings on a chocolate cake, are pretty impressive, to be honest.

It's a bit of a poor man's France, but it's very cool nonetheless.

And thanks for the send-off, I'll post pics of bikini-clad girls on sandy beaches when I come back, promise!

I wouldn't mind a (short) tour of the place, but would rather sleep over in a heated prison than in one of the icebed rooms.

nice to see you back, Angsty! This a fly by post or will you be stopping by more often?

On topic, for myself, it's a toss up between a tour of some of the more haunted sites in the UK, and a trip to Iceland during the winter, so I could thoroughly enjoy the hot springs there.
