The News wrote:
A woman going through security at Los Angeles International Airport put her month-old grandson into a plastic bin intended for carry-on items and slid it into an X-ray machine.

The early Saturday accident — bizarre but not unprecedented — caught airport workers by surprise, even though the security line was not busy at the time, officials said.

A screener watching the machine's monitor immediately noticed the outline of a baby and pulled the bin backward on the conveyor belt.

The infant was taken to Centinela Hospital, where doctors determined that he had not received a dangerous dose of radiation.

Officials, who declined to release the 56-year-old woman's name, said she spoke Spanish and apparently did not understand English.
[...]
"There's an obligation on the traveler to use some common sense," said Larry Fetters, the TSA's federal security director at LAX.
[...]
"We're trying to figure out what changes we can make, short of putting up signs saying, 'Don't put your baby through the X-ray machine,' " Melendez said.
How long before we DO see little pictures of a baby with the red circle/slash posted around the X-ray machines?

The rest of the article's thrust is that security workers are so over-worked that they can't even catch a baby going through the machine. Since the worker present DID notice the baby (and pulled him out) I think that's slightly unfair although I see the general point. Anyway... heh... baby in the x-ray machine.

Better than a microwave or a blender, just not as funny. Every time I think someone couldn't possibly be that stupid, I have the good fortune to hear a story like this.

The bigger concern is if she Had made it through and onto the plane would the child fit into the over head compartment with the rest of her carry on bags?

You never know, perhaps she did it intentionally to give herself a late abortion.

It was a flight to Mexico City. Not that that proves anything.

Of course, now we've proven to the terrorists that our resolve is so weak that we're unwilling to x-ray our infants for bombs.

I know how the next airplane is going down.

That's where they wait to cross the border! In her defense, she may have never been to an airport before. I'm sure if it had been a fence, she would have known enough to toss the baby seat over to whomever was on the other side.

I bet she always wondered what it would be like to ride atop one of those giant silver birds in the sky!

The rubbermaid container I use to keep my Christmas decorations in has a sticker on the inside of the lid that has a baby playing in the bin with a big red crossed circle over it.

So, the warnings are half there. They just need to add an xray machine to it. It specifically says "baby" on the label though. Toddlers are okay?

I don't think you can abort your grandson...short of pushing your daughter or daughter-in-law down some steps or coming at her with a rusty coathanger.

Honestly, the coat hanger doesn't have to be rusty.

Soon as I read this I was going to post about how x-raying her grandchild could kill her daught/son/in-law, but then reading on I see others have already done so. That being the case, I am just posting to bump up my post count.

If I really work it, maybe I can pass Allakhazam's 1221 post count by the end of the year.
