So I went searching tonight, as I periodically do, for any information on when "Rome" will be airing next year, and it ends up it's a lot sooner than I suspected. January 14 to be exact. Unfortunately, gossip is that its production costs are too high and there won't be a third season. From the looks of the teaser on the website, the second season is picking up right after the death of Ceasar, so I don't see how it can possibly chronicle the rise of Octavian as Emperor Augustus, which is what I always assumed would be the case. Ah well, still looking forward to it.

Must... not... read...

Are there spoilers? I guess now that I have absolutely nothing to watch on TV, now would be a good time to bust out those last two episodes.

Well...there aren't any spoilers if you know anything at all about history, or have at least read some Shakespeare. Basically the point is that the new season starts the middle of January.

I'm going to hijack your thread and ask if you or anyone else watched the first season of Dexter.

The pilot certainly didn't impress me and I wasn't sure if I was going to watch it. The episodes stacked up til I had about 5 saved up and hubby was watching them, so I would get in one every now and then. It wrapped last night and it was so satisfying and complete, I loved it. It's so rare to find a show that doesn't end in a cliffhanger nowadays.

I Smiley: inlove Dexter. Michael C Hall was amazing throughout and I'm dying for season 2 already.

That sucks, first Deadwood now Rome, is it the cost or is the brass at HBO just stupid?

Well, I have to admit, the production values for Rome must be absolutely astronomical. The set design is beyond gorgeous. If they're having a hard time keeping subscribers, well, then...

Actually the costs of Rome killed both of them if you believe the industry gossip.

Sadly, people just won't except good story in place of effects for historical drama these days.

I Claudius ftw for deprived Rome fans.

So if we promise to still watch the show even if they use cardboard boxes for sets they'll continue it?? Yay!

and surely it can't cost too much to show boobies.

They have some nice ones on the show too.

Hell seems like most of the HBO series that I like are getting cut...time to cancel HBO.

And if Showtime cuts Dexter after next season, they may get the axe too. Loved the finale.

I had to google him.
Quote:
. Rome often is reduced to repeating himself on air, and dredging up obscure off-beat news and pop culture stories to fill air time. This generates listener feedback often but can reduce the show to pointless mockery of obscure incidents and individuals. His manner of mocking and demeaning people on air has been criticized by some but applauded by fans as his unique "talking smack" air style. Frequently, he will hang up on callers - using his infamous "buzzer" -- if they stammer, fail to make a point quickly or touch upon a subject that Rome has black-listed. "Talking smack," a kind of quick-witted insult and taunting playground banter in which callers take to task other callers or people in the sports world, is favored by Rome. This results in most callers quickly summarizing their "take" and "not sucking" on air, and leaves many other callers unfamiliar with the slang unwelcome.

I watched the first like... 10 or so episodes on On Demand. I think I got to the point where someone had sex with his sister (she was hot though, so it was ok >.>; )

It was really good, for the most part. Was just a lot to watch, and it got taken off On Demand before I could finish everything it had available.

I wonder if I should start watching it again.

Yesterday I actually did the unthinkable and subscribed to HBO, as I figured doing that for three months wouldn't end up being all that terribly more expensive than paying to download from Itunes or OnDemand or wherever. So, eagerly awaiting next Sunday.

Pikko--I've read some spoilers, but not that particular one. Though one of the ones I did read could clarify the one you came across, if you're interested. Links to the trailers, prz? Couldn't find them on YouTube or with a Google search, and could only find the very general teaser on the HBO site.
