Yes. Because there's a clear equivalence between people with a particular skin color and people who choose to commit crimes.

Kinda showing in a nutshell where most liberal ideas go south there Smash...

What on Earth are you talking about? Are you arguing that it's ok to treat people who spend time in prison as second class citizens?

No. I'm saying that it's absolutely silly to make an equivalence between how we treat people based on their skin color and how we treat people based on their own actions.

It's obviously wrong for our laws to treat people differently because of their skin color. It's obviously *right* for our laws to treat people differently based on their actions. At a very basic level, if you don't do that, you don't really have a legal system. Presumably we have to make a distinction between someone who robbed a liquor store and someone who didn't.

Your earlier statement implied that it would somehow be a violation of someone's civil rights for us to charge them with a crime because they broke the law...

We already do, Smash. convicted felons are not allowed to vote, are not allowed in jobs handling sensitive information, not allowed to hold certain public offices-- the list goes on and on. Cons are second class citizens by virtue of their own actions, not by any particular oppression by The Establishment.

It creates a difficult life for them beyond the fact that most people get into crime because they find mainstream life difficult. Add in these institutionally created tattoos, and you create an entire level of complexity to reintegration for criminals. And then, we wonder why recidivism rates are so high in our prison system.
