First class soda-jerkFollow

Just thought it might amuse some of you.

Quote:
When the French president (Jacques Chirac) was 21 years old, he was sent to the United States to learn English. He spent a summer at Harvard and, at the weekends, worked as a "soda jerk", or ice-cream man and soft drinks salesman, in a Howard Johnson's restaurant in Boston. One of his proudest possessions, he occasionally tells friends, is a certificate, signed by Howard Johnson himself, stating that "Mr J. Chirac proved himself to be a first class soda-jerk".

You can't say you weren't warned...

Dubya was head cheerleader of his Private High School, Philips Academy in Andover, Mass. I bet he was also a "Cheer-tater" as well.

I am truely sorry to say this, but...

This is an urban myth!!

Like alligators in the sewers, or "Compassionate Republicanism", it simply does not exist. Most young people in France have never heard of Jerry Lewis. Carl Lewis, maybe, Jerry Springer, for sure, but Jerry Lewis, no!

Maybe the older generation enjoyed his subtle and subversive humour, but it's not like young people sit around in café recalling his sketches, or like we get Jerry Lewis restrospectives on TV on Christmas Day.

On the other hand, there is a brand new American TV show that's very popular in France at the moment. It's about these 6 friends that live in New-York, make sarcastic comments, spend their day drinking in a café, and sleep with each other occasionally.

We love "Les Amis", but Jerry Lewis, no.
