Mr. Pikko had read something similar to this years ago (from Fark, no less) and once we found out I was having a boy, he would give me this look anytime I brought a bowl of miso soup to my lips or ate a little too much tofu. After a while he planted the seeds of doubt well enough into my brain that I avoided all soy products until he was born. He kept telling me if he turned out with a small peepee, it was probably all them damn soy beans I wanted to eat.

According to the 2003 Journal of Nutrition, the "upper limit" of soy consumption for humans is not sufficent to affect testicular development. However, the 2005 Journal of Neuroendocrinology warns that the effects of soy estrogen upon infant brain development are not well understood.
The Journal of Neuroendocrinology wrote:
Despite the considerable interest, the effects of phytoestrogen-rich soy infant formulas in children remain totally unknown. Although no overtly adverse effects have been detected to date, this may simply be because no large-scale, comprehensive studies have been undertaken to address the issue, and this may change in the near future. Considerable attention is now being given to the interaction between the environment and the neurodevelopment of children. This interest is largely sparked by a growing awareness of an apparent increase in neurobehavioural disabilities, including autism and a wide range of behavioural disorders. Whether or not soy consumption during infancy is a factor remains to be seen, but the need for a more serious, concerted effort regarding this issue is clearly indicated.

Back when my kids were in elementry school, group of us parents were chatting about how so many girls seem to be developing far earlier lately. Only thing we could figure out, was that it had to be the formula, since breastfeed babies didn't seem to get boobies earlier then others girls were.

Guess that why there are so many guys boobs over in the sandbox, these days too.

Actually, the early onset of puberty has more to do with growth hormone in animal products (most especially dairy, since it tends to be most heavily excreted in milk) than with formula. And it affects boys, too. I was speaking with a mother just last week whose 8 year old son was starting to get what she described as "a man's B.O." until she switched over to hormone-free products.

It's probably likely that the girls who were breastfed were also not given cow's milk as much as those who were formula fed. And depending on when your kids were that age, it's possible that no one really knew anything about growth hormones and the benefits of organic products at that time.

I could go into a big rant over how little this information is being disseminated and just who is benefitting from keeping it quiet, but I'll settle for donning my tin-foil hat. I will say, I've never been all that concerned with organic foods for my own sake, but now with a kid on the way, we're finding room in the budget to at least go with organic dairy.

But you referred to me! Smiley: mad

I remember an episode of St. Elsewhere from the 1980's which fielded the theory of estrogen in hamburgers causing women to develop faster than in decades past.

You know, you might want to check out Safeway. Safeway has an organic store brand called "Organics." The prices are pretty reasonable too - a little more than the store brand stuff, but a lot less than the name brand organics.

Well, I'm allergic to soybeans and soy products, so that throws THAT theory right out.

Well Sabo, you were very very very very very gay before this study came out, so it doesn't apply to you, obviously. Anyone else who comes out of the closet will of course be told that they have too much soy in their diet. But you're safe.

For him, if there was a chance that 10 years from now a study would come out confirming it, at least I did my part by not eating entire blocks of tofu at night. (which I really did want to do)

Moderation never hurt anyone. So what if soy has those effects on people? It only is said to have those effects if you have too much soy. Though from what I hear about soy baby formula you might want to stay away from that, but a tofu cube isn't gonna do anyone any damage. Soy milk tends to spike soy too much for babies. I'm not gonna guess at what affects that may have on babies, but I do know having too much soy as an adult can be a factor in thyroid problems. I think at the very least parents should avoid soy milk for their babies.

Also with the ever increasing amount of soy in food products in the US it's getting easier to be getting too much soy as an adult too. If you eat a lot of foods that were pre-made or pre-processed, you might want to research how much soy intake you have. It may be time to ditch the tofu cubes if you think it's getting too high.

I stay on top of things like this because my gf has PCOS. There is an awful lot she can't eat(more or less means I don't have to do groceries XD). It's quite interesting to learn about all the things that they put in food that we have no business even touching, let alone eating. Soy specifically isn't that bad for us, you just can't eat too much of it. Enjoy in Moderation.

I think you misunderstood me. I probably should have said "block of tofu". Meaning the entire big hunk of tofu.

I would just like to share a little story with guys about this subject. I have no idea whether any of this is true or false but I will tell you about my uncle and his two little boys.

My Uncle used to be a really cool guy, he was an Army ranger in the 101st, rode around on a harley, and was always very active with outdoor sports. He also used to rebuild old muscle cars, which was always fun to help him with.

Then he went back to college to become a chiropractor, he did this at some school out in San Diego, CA. In the 4-5 years that he was out there, he started eating all organic foods and living what I call the 21st century hippie life style. When he would come home for the holidays he would become weirder and weirder. He would also try and push his new life style onto the rest of our family, which did not go over very well btw. Now that he is home and has opened up his chiropractic office no one in my family really talks to him anymore due to his "new" personality and lifestyle.

Now comes the part where I tell you all about his two sons. His oldest son was mothered by a very normal young woman. She was a very good looking, fun girl who ate normally and was not afraid to party. There son started out being very normal, a typical boy. Then they split up, his ex-girlfriend got primary custody of their son, with my uncle being able to see him on weekends and holidays and such.

His second son was mothered by a 21st century hippie woman, who for a very long time has led that hippie lifestyle. From the very beginning this son was fed all organic food and such. Even from the time his personality started to show you could tell he seemed very.... girlie. Which still holds true to this day, he is 6 years old now.

Now both of my uncle's son's eat all organic food. His oldest son has to eat that way because the court deemed it a fair grievance in their custody agreement . That happened several years ago by the way. With his oldest son being 9 or 10 years old and the youngest being 6, I can personally say that both of them will grow up to be gay. They are two of the most feminine boys that I have ever seen at that age.

This could be pure coincidence that they eat all organic food and live the "hippie" lifestyle. But knowing my uncle and how much he has changed makes me believe that the soy, or some other food by-product has changed him and his sons.

Well that's my argument story, perhaps it will give a little insight into what the OP's linked article was talking about.

Hint: Feminine =/= gay. They are effiminate boys, but that doesn't mean they're going to grow up gay. Gender confusion doesn't define sexuality.
