this is hugely important to me, with EQII it was blatantly obvious on release that it wasn't ready and that features had been added late to the game in responce to other games that where in competition.
i have no idea why companies do this, just set out a clear and comprehensive programme for what will be in the game on release and don't release untill that is ready, if you are going to react to the market then do it in patches or expansions that add depth to a good game.
If V(SoH) has the potrential to be a great game then they should stop looking at other games and release what they have completely finished and tested not a mish mash of half finished idea's thrown in at the expence of the development of orginal material.

thats easy to say, however, sigil stated from the beginning the obvious. they are building a game to make money. period.
and when you take a stand, and get the web geeks (us) to cheer and dance to your song, then some non-online gaming company dumps a game on the market that flies in the face of every thing you have taken a stand on, and the web geeks (us again) bash it before it is even launched.......
fast foward a few months.......
and you see this "kiddie" game sucking in 7 MILLION PAYING.......PAYING.....PAYING customers.......
you start singing the tune to "barney". i love you, you love me, were as happy as a.........
it takes a long time to make a game. to take a stand and not waiver when the market is constantly changeing, is not a good bussiness model. they want the money. not your loyalty. the money is in casual. not hard core raiding.
i understand why they are doing it. and i hope they can launch a good game. im ready for somethign new. but EQ2 didnt suffer because they dumbed stuff down. they almost died becuase they DIDNT untill it was almost too late.
blizzard showed the gaming world where the money is, inspite of the "earn, not given" mantra we spout in web pages. its fine to say we want challenging and we want to earn everything we are givien and we want it to be really difficult, but when it is deliverd, and we dont show up to play it...........
start singing "i love you, you love me, ........"
SWG almost died for the same reason. they dumbed it down a few notches too and are treading water.
WoW started at the bottom and look at where they ended up. you think new game developers didnt notice? you think they want a piece of EQ2,s 300,000 players or a piece of WoW,s 7,000,000 players?
sad as it is to say, WoW is the new standard barring something totally new and origonal. deal with it.
