I agree with Elinda on almost all points.

I would not get involved with this upon release, chances are, they still have a really long way to go to make this an enjoyable game worth paying for.

Alpha-, or Masta-, Beta. Choose the adventures your "avatar" experiences. A better game, perhaps.

I can't talk about the games because of the NDA. However, it has been demonstrated over and over that MMOs that release before they are polished crash and burn. If I have to put my money down on a company, I am going to bet on the one that has learned this lesson.

Got my pledge and soft cloth workin'.

I hope the market can support multiple new games, all worth the time and money to play. Smiley: grin

this is hugely important to me, with EQII it was blatantly obvious on release that it wasn't ready and that features had been added late to the game in responce to other games that where in competition.

i have no idea why companies do this, just set out a clear and comprehensive programme for what will be in the game on release and don't release untill that is ready, if you are going to react to the market then do it in patches or expansions that add depth to a good game.

If V(SoH) has the potrential to be a great game then they should stop looking at other games and release what they have completely finished and tested not a mish mash of half finished idea's thrown in at the expence of the development of orginal material.

Exactly, EQII as it stands 2 years after launch is a pretty solid game. Not perfect but such a breath of fresh air after WoW that it seems great.

However the complete debacle that it was at launch has created such a stigma that it will always be a niche MMO. They scared off their core base of players and created a buzz that leaves most potential new players not wanting to waste the 40 bucks on the game to find out if it is really good now or if the initial reports of suckitude still stand.

EQ2 wasn't that bad when it came out. It wasn't finished but it wasn't broken either. What I objected to and the reason I quit the first time was because they kept dumbing it down to try to draw the WoW crowed. One of the reasons I liked the original EQ was that things where not always handed to you. When the game first came out it took me 6 to 8 weeks to get to level 25. Now I could probably do it in 2 or 3 weeks or less playing the some amount of hours a week.

I just hope that I have the option of playing another decent games besides WoW. I love the game, but mostly for the lack of anything else.

If I was *hypothetically* in beta, I would say pretty much what everyone else here is - the game has potential, but it's going to suffer "EQ2 Syndrome" - crappy upon release, perhaps good in 6 months to a year later. I'm not sure why ANYONE would say this game is a grind - it's not. Leveling in this game is *not* hard. Forced grouping? Are you really playing VG or just talking out your ***? The game is too solo friendly, and sigil is trying to change that before release.

Speaking of change, while I agree betas are all for trying new things, keeping what works and tossing out what doesn't, it's rather late in beta to be overhauling various systems in game. Two and a half to 3 months before going gold they need to be fine tuning systems, not trying out brand new ones. If they keep this up, there'll be a lot of people suffering nightmare flashbacks of EQ2's beta tradeskilling fiasco. Not to mention high level content (post 30) is mostly not out for testing, nor any raids. Classes are still being revamped and itemization is being heavily tweaked. 2.5-3 months before CDs are being printed...

Nah, the sky's not falling. Plenty of other games due out in Q1 '07.

sounds like the leaders of this project still dont have a clue on how to do things right and are again hoping to use the customer to be public beta testers and to pay for that privelidge... /rude

such a shame too.

Poor Singdall, whatever happened to you to get you so hurt in the butt over microsoft/sony/etc. Or do you just have the need to be the anti establishment computer geek to compensate for being a dumb ****?

thats easy to say, however, sigil stated from the beginning the obvious. they are building a game to make money. period.

and when you take a stand, and get the web geeks (us) to cheer and dance to your song, then some non-online gaming company dumps a game on the market that flies in the face of every thing you have taken a stand on, and the web geeks (us again) bash it before it is even launched.......

fast foward a few months.......

and you see this "kiddie" game sucking in 7 MILLION PAYING.......PAYING.....PAYING customers.......

you start singing the tune to "barney". i love you, you love me, were as happy as a.........

it takes a long time to make a game. to take a stand and not waiver when the market is constantly changeing, is not a good bussiness model. they want the money. not your loyalty. the money is in casual. not hard core raiding.

i understand why they are doing it. and i hope they can launch a good game. im ready for somethign new. but EQ2 didnt suffer because they dumbed stuff down. they almost died becuase they DIDNT untill it was almost too late.

blizzard showed the gaming world where the money is, inspite of the "earn, not given" mantra we spout in web pages. its fine to say we want challenging and we want to earn everything we are givien and we want it to be really difficult, but when it is deliverd, and we dont show up to play it...........

start singing "i love you, you love me, ........"

SWG almost died for the same reason. they dumbed it down a few notches too and are treading water.

WoW started at the bottom and look at where they ended up. you think new game developers didnt notice? you think they want a piece of EQ2,s 300,000 players or a piece of WoW,s 7,000,000 players?

sad as it is to say, WoW is the new standard barring something totally new and origonal. deal with it.
