I don't think I ever finished reading The White Dragon. I found it to be so completely bloated and boring.

I admit, I loved The White Dragon, mainly because I adore Ruth. He's just so much the "little dragon that could" and everyone is his friend! Jaxom tends to be a bit of whingy git, but Ruth rocks.

But honestly, Dragonriders of Pern fans have been waiting decades for a movie adaptation...if they were going to do a movie about a dragonrider, why not start there?

No interest whatsoever in Eragon.

I still hate DSD for recommending him to me. I got halfway through book 2 or 3 of his whatever series and I gave up in disgust.

It was his last book that was awful. Like the optimistic I am though, I am hoping the next one will make up for it.

Bhod you still have to check out Diana Gibaldan. Im rereading her latest book now and I just cant believe how well she writes. She can ( and does) write about the daily life of this family and even then I am totally engrossed into it. Not boring at all

Oh btw, I think that Dragonlance movie has been in the works for quite some time, so don't get your hopes up. Just like how I've long given up on that Ender's Game movie, which has been in production for like 2 decades. Smiley: glare

From the trailer, it could really go either way with the CGI. The trailer for Dungeons and Dragons looked pretty too, but man, what a laughably terrible movie.

Oh Jeremy Irons, hahahahaha

The first or the second D&D movie? Yes, the made a second. You didn't know? Let me save you that 2 hours of your life. Don't watch it.

You mean the "Oulander" series by Diana Gabaldon? Or is this another author I've never heard of?

He shouldn't have separated the characters the way he did. All my faves, Arya, John, and Tyrion were missing. Having to read a book filled with Cersei chapters was barfage.

Firstly GRR's books started sucking out long before the last one.

Secondly Diana Galbadon is for girls, and possibly schoolchildren and posters named Sabo. No way I am reading a book my mother gets in a tizzy over.

Okay. I just had to make sure you actually were recommending a series most people consider to be "romance" to Bodhi.

I haven't read the most recent one yet, though I might do so now that it's out in paperback. I really struggled through the last one, so I wasn't willing to invest the money in the hardcover.

In the meantime, the next installment of Laurell K. Hamilton's Merry Gentry series is due out tomorrow. Trying to decide if I'm willing to shell out the dough for more cookie-cutter girl-**** in the hopes that the plot may actually advance this time around.

Judging by the "sneak peak" that was on after Family Guy last night, it is going to be absolute crap.

Not like I expected any more out of it, though.

While it *is* under the section of Romance, I would hardly call it one compared to all the other romance novels out there. I find it a nice blend of fantasy and action, mixed with a couple steamy sex scenes. But the romance is far underscored by the rest of the peoples lives.

My mother has been reading trashy romance for decades now. It was only last year after a cursory glance through one during a week off, that my dad realized that there were SEX scenes in them. Sex scenes that can make a Penthouse forum seem tame.

Dad: your books are FILTHY
Mom: Why do you think I read them?

Hilarious.

I don't know where I saw it, but recently there was a comic strip where a male character sees a female character reading a romance novel and asks her what she's reading, and she responds with, "Girl ****."

They can get pretty explicit. Try reading something by Virginia Henley someday...

When I've had a bad week (or two or three), nothing like blowing $20 on a bunch of trashy romance novels and reading them with wet toenails. Once my toenails are dry I'm ready for a nice healthy boinkfest and a nap.

No. Yes. The first one was so typical that I didn't bother with any of the others.

I had to read that twice before I realized she wasn't saying what I thought she was saying.

I do this once in awhile but I tend to add in a bubble bath and a glass of red.

no, silly. You paint your toenails once you get in the bath, and as they dry, sip your wine and read your trash novel in the surrounding comfort of bubbles.

I listened to both of the Eragon books on CD, and enjoyed them. However, being trapped in a car for 4-6 hours at a time does wonders for one's literary criteria. Not sure I would have been ableto finish them the old-fashioned way.

The trailers look like it should have gone directly to DVD.

Excellent call; I used to be a big fan of Irons prior to D&D. And what the hell was up with the over-acting boob with the blue lipstick? My spidey-sense went off the moment I found out that Wayans was in the cast. I really need to start listening to it.
