The end result was tragic, but as bre'r ToUtem says, he adhered to every rule in the "Idiot's Guide to Unfortunate Demise"
A similar story would be:
"Mr Hughes tragically lost his entire extended family when he tried to save them from their burning home by dousing them in gasoline and lobbing firecrackers and boxes of matches into their bedrooms and turning on every gas-ring on the stove"
