United States banks no longer back currencyFollow

#1 Dec 07 2006 at 2:23 PM Rating: Default
I am writing this to inform as many people as possible about a terrible situation with my country's banks. I work at a gas station. I recently aquired a real, united states issued silver certificate. (customer handed it to me in payment for an item, I exchanged it for a more modern dollar bill out of my wallet).

So, today, I go to four seperate banks in Fort Lauderdale, FL; Bank of America, Bank Atlantic, Wachovia, and Citibank. Not a single one was able to pay me in silver upon demand, as required by federal law (under thier FDIC insurance). The bank with the absolute worst handling of this, was Bank of America. They called security when I made my demand (it does say on the bottom of the bill that I must demand it... I'm well within my legal rights to do so) to be payed in Silver.

The best bank, was Bank Atlantic, who directed me to the nearest federal reserve branch in Miami, Florida. I am very sadly dissapointed in my financial institutions today by thier inability to back one, single, dollar bill by any real form of money.

*cough* Take your dollar. Buy a dollar worth of silver. Done.

I'm not sure what "right" you think you've lost here. A silver backed dollar bill is not more valuable because of some mythical ability to exchange it for a dollar worth of silver from the US government. It's more valuable because they're rare and collectors just might pay you more then a dollar for them.

The obvious thing to do here is to sue the government for a dollar's worth of silver because your rights are being violated.

I'd call a lawyer this instant. Don't delay and allow others to be disenfranchised.

I'm trying to imagine the scenario wherein some bored kid steals a silver certificate from his grandmother's coin collection to buy a pack of cigs from a gas station.

It happens a heck of a lot. I've still got a pretty decent collection of silver dollar, 10 dollar and 20 dollar certificates, as well as bags of silver coins (which are obviously much more valuable). One time the bank apparently goofed up when we got a batch of rolled coins. Ended up with about 5 or 6 rolls of silver dimes from that one.

Go back in time to 1968 when the redepmtion of cirtificates for silver was halted by an act of congress. They'll give your silver dollar.

Silver certificates have no value backed in silver for oh, the last 40 years or so.

Dumbass.

So what you're really saying is that you stole this silver certificate from your employer.
