I got rear-ended on the freeway Tuesday and my neck has been hurting since. Doc said that the pain could go away in a few days or get worse...So any one else out there ever have whiplash? How long was your neck/back in pain? Did you need an physical therapy before it got better? Share your experience so I get an idea what I have to look forward to.
Same thing happened to me about 5 years ago while driving from San Francisco down to Redwood Shores on the 101. The traffic was a parking lot, but the girl behind me was driving a stick shift (no, you pervs, not a sticky shaft) and must have popped the clutch and lost control. *BAM!* So we stop, get out and check for damage - none whatsoever, so I told her, no harm, no foul, let's just get back in our cars and not hold up traffic. So we didn't bother to exchange insurance or anything.
Of course, 5 minutes later, while driving down the road, my neck starts to seize up like a ****. Eventually, it subsided, but I could not turn my neck to the right. Of course, I went to a doctor and got something for it, but forget what now.
This neck pain/unable to turn to the right problem didn't go away for a long time. About a year later, I had inflamed a disc in my lower back for overdoing it on the treadmill at an inclined run that I eventually made my way to a chiropractor. I wish I had gone sooner for the neck, because he not only helped me with my back, but fixed my neck as well. I have complete mobility turning my neck to the right ever since.
Car accidents suck and can f
uck up your life in an instant. I consider myself lucky that I only sustained the minor damage that I did. If I ever get involved in another fender bender, I'll definitely make sure to exchange insurance info with the other parties involved.
