I couldn't finish watching that. Right now, my gag reflex is so hypersensitive, I gag just thinking about gagging. Forget watching someone gag.

Makes life a real bummer for Mr. Ambrya, for reasons I'm sure you'll get if you think about it...

I actually just spent four 9-hour days in the presence of two women, both with 2-month-old babies, and found out there's truth to a rumor I hadn't quite credited before: poo from exclusively breastfed babies doesn't stink. Seriously, I must have had a dozen or more diapers changed within three feet of me over the course of the workshop, and I never smelled any odor. I actually commented on it, and one of the moms said that up close it smells a little like popcorn, but I never detected it, and I've got a pretty sensitive sniffer.

Just a little something to consider for those of you who aren't all that interested in the other benefits breastfeeding has to offer...

No, but it's the visual that'll kill you. It's often mustardy yellow with little curds in it. And don't even get me started on meconium...that's gross on many, many levels.

Here's one thing I didn't know though: babies that are only breastfed can go without pooping for many days, and often do! The reason is that they use up all parts of the milk they drink and produce very little waste. Thus, pooping is not on the agenda as often. I freaked out when Mia hadn't pooped for 5 days.

Havent watched the clip yet as Im sitting down to breakfast. However, Im going to counter this quote:

with personal experience. Yes, it can. It doesnt always, but theres going to be certain foods that just come out really wrong on the other end of your kid. And sometomes, it can smell exactly like food, which I think is even worse.

Take home made mac and cheese for exple. Hubby grew up adoring this. It's a family standard at every party his relatives throw. When nursing my son I had maybe a small serving at a party. Next day I heard an unbearable moan, only to find hubby gagging hard, trying not to puke as he changed his sons diaper that smelled identically like.... homemad mac and cheese.

Things like brocoli I have noticed also is not a good thing to touch if you nurse. Every body is different so while I say one thing didnt work for me and mine, it could be the opposite for others out there. But trust me Am, you're going to find one or two foods you will not touch after an experience, and it might even last you longer than as you nurse. We still havent touched home made mac and cheese since

I agree, it can stink. Maybe it doesn't have the normal **** smell, but it's got a smell all on its own. And I thought I was going crazy from being around my babies too much, until my brother-in-law casually mentioned one day that sometimes he thinks his own **** smells just like the kid's. Then I knew it wasn't just me who thinks these really weird things.

Okay, I consider myself warned. As for these other women who were in my workshop, they must have been eating right, because while the stuff did look pretty funky (though easy to clean up, as it didn't appear to be sticky or goopy) I caught nary a whiff throughout the entire four days, even when they were changing diapers right next to me.

my little bubba (16 months now) was exclusively breastfed for 4 months and i agree with the **** smell although i wouldn't call it non-existent it was definitely less revolting than the death stench of my mate's bottle fed baby poops. and to add my two cents worth, bottle fed baby puke smells worse than breast fed too. but that's just my opinion. :-) smells aside though, so long as mum and baby are happy and healthy, bottle or breast fed babies both rock!

I see that my relationship with my family is very different from your relationship with your family. Or maybe you're just a bunch of crazy Hawaiians.

Smiley: lol My niece is a mere 3 months older than my daughter, so we're in identical child-rearing phases. Plus he was doing most of the diaper changing, so you can't really blame his mental state when he admitted that to everyone.
